Biden helped engineer the growth of our for profit private prison BUSINESS in the 90s. He was a good neoliberal who joined hands with Reagan Republicans and furthered the regressive capitalist "trickle down" agenda we all suffer into today. He's a bad man who has done bad things to vulnerable Americans.

He's leaps and bounds better than the only alternative Americans were presented, which is why I voted ~~for Biden~~ against Trump.

No politician worship here. No "we need a strong man" demagoguery here. Good luck walking right-wingers through that rational breakdown though.

[–] fathog@lemmy.world 61 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Can’t wait for him to be the only alternative again next year! 😭

I had no idea there were outtakes to Inside. I have a lot of googling to do now

[–] AllonzeeLV@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The outtakes are an entire second special that is on netflix! "Inside: the outtakes" I think its called.

It's almost as good as inside itself, with new songs that perfectionist Bo didn't feel fit the vibe of inside. Enjoy!

Well then you owe me a dumpling out dumpling equivalent.

Based as fuck. I wish we had rcv so I could vote for Cornel West in good faith

[–] MonkCanatella@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 year ago

That's the exact reason we don't have RCV.

Bernie, Biden, Trump... what really maters is who the president nominates and who he surrounds himself with. Very rarely will things make it to the president's desk where it is up to his judgement whether to sign it or not. Elections are more about evaluating who the candidate surrounds himself, not his policy ideas.

And just to be clear, Trump surrounded himself with nepotism, grifters, and yes-men. I just wonder who Bernie would have surrounded himself with if he got the chance.

[–] Zoboomafoo@yiffit.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hopefully he wouldn't have surrounded himself with the members of his campaign

[–] Crashumbc@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Meh they could have done better. But, Bernie was the target of an insane smear campaign from the moment he decided to run Democrat. The old guard, has no intention of letting their fuck up with Obama happen again. They were hell bent on Hillary getting the nomination.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I kinda doubt they dislike Obama very much at this point.

Bernie was more like what Obama vaguely billed himself as, but when you look past the rhetoric a bit Obama is probably to the right of Hillary.

I suspect it was more big money that didn't want Bernie winning, as he was more of a threat of systemic change than Trump, Clinton, or Biden.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, but just think of the growth he's had!

30 years before that he was fighting bussing during school integration...

Another 30 years and he might actually be progressive

[–] DigitalTraveler42@lemmy.world 52 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Let's be real and fair about it this, Obama changed Biden for the better, something about their partnership drove Biden further Left on many issues, and Bernie Sanders teaming up with him also seemed to force a major shift in Biden's platform. Biden could have stayed that guy who was a fervant drug warrior from a bygone era but he's shifted for the better on "drug war" and "war on crime" and he seems to really be willing to take on the fight against the racists that we're in currently.

Trump on the other hand wasn't willing to do anything but make shit worse, including ending democracy so that he could be dictator.

I have plenty of grudges against Biden, being one of the deciding factors that led to Clarence Thomas being placed on the supreme Court is absolutely one of them, but you gotta give the old man credit where it's due, he's not who he was at all, and not many elderly change that late in life, and we shouldn't shit on people who show a clear ability to grow and become better, because that's one thing Biden has going for him that Trump absolutely does not have.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Bernie Sanders teaming up with him also seemed to force a major shift in Biden’s platform.

Bernie pushed him to the left in the campaign...

But it hasn't changed anything since Biden got in office. Nothing got accomplished that Biden wasn't already going to do.

It's not Bernie's fault, and he can't even really call out Biden because Bernie knows without a primary all it would do is help republicans.

No one is saying Biden isn't better than trump, we're pointing out how shitty it is that these our only two choices

[–] DigitalTraveler42@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (4 children)

I never said that anybody was saying that Trump is better than Biden, what I am saying is that Trump is the alternative, and not a good alternative at all, the more you circlejerk about Biden sucking because of this or that is the more you help push voters not to vote, or worse, vote for Trump.

But it hasn't changed anything since Biden got in office.

So how is Biden going to change anything when he had to spend the years he had congress on his side fixing the shit Trump purposely broke and now he has a congress that's not only against him but is ridiculously inept due to the majority party electing morons and obstructionists who clearly have no intention to help run the country? Then you have a virtually deadlocked Senate thanks to Sinema and Manchin continuing to play both sides. Then you have this corrupt AF supreme Court. Also in case you haven't noticed Biden's administration is also navigating not getting us into WWIII with Ruzzia and China, the environment starting to fail (thanks corporations and right wingers), food and other shortages, oh and a fucking insurrection that continues to fester and threaten our democracy, and I know I'm leaving out a whole lot more, but hopefully you get the fricken point.

So I'm not sure if you're just under-informed and flouting your ignorance, or if you're just that entitled, but Biden is getting as much done as the world is allowing him to. I'm sure we all wish things were better but it's quite possible that things are going to continue to get worse due to what climate change is doing to us, it's going to make diseases stronger, make our crop yields worse, fresh water is going to become one of the most valuable resources on the planet, and it's absolutely not the right time for us to allow a climate change denying dictator to come to power by saying "but what has Biden done for me lately??" Like some petulant and entitled child.

“He was a good neoliberal”

Don’t speak further, I’m too hard as it is.

There is only one this Maga needs to understand.

Hunter is the presidential kid. There hasn't been any talk of pardons from his dad, government, or otherwise.

Trumps team has at large all asked for pardons. From charities fraud to pedophilisim.

You'd think just the two facts here would be enough to strike a chord. The president isn't pardoning his own kid. Trump is rallying to pardon those who willingly and with great effort actively attempt to destroy the idea of government in America.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 31 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The difference is that Hunter is Really Guilty™ while everyone around Trump and everyone they work with are all a victim of a Democrat Witch Hunt!™©®

Logic won't ever work because they all have gigantic asses to pull shit out of to "defend" their stance.

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But why are they "pulling" the shit out? The logistics of that act is mind boggling.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's not about being right, or looking smart, or getting what you want, it's about feeling superior to someone else, when you know deep down how useless and disliked you are.

[–] littlecolt@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It's about being in the in group. As much as they claim to judge others on their actions and character, it's actually whether or not you are a member of the in group. Anyone in the in group is automatically "one of the good guys" and can't be evil. Same reason they call Republicans who oppose Trump "RINOs" to imply they were never part of the in group to begin with. They are impure, cast them out! They must never admit that the in group can be wrong, fallible, or the bad guys.

[–] books@lemmy.world 53 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do illegal shit. Face consequences.

It's simple.

[–] tacosplease@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's not even that. His crimes were super minor. The literal misdemeanor tax shit would never be criminally prosecuted if he were a regular person.

And the other crime was owning a gun while being a drug user. Who fucking cares? The country is full of people who both own guns and use drugs. First time I've ever heard of actual legal consequences for that. Anyone else and the conservatives would be fighting for his gun rights.

[–] WaxedWookie@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Drugs, hookers, and influence peddling. GOP staples.

To be honest, it's the potential influence peddling that concerns me - it mostly seems like "my daddy is Biden - money please" that didn't go far, but if there's something to that, he should definitely face consequences.

[–] Hubi@feddit.de 26 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm out of the loop on these American shenanigans. Why would Hunter Biden be going to prison?

[–] harpuajim@lemmy.ml 53 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Mainly tax fraud and lying on a firearm application saying he wasn't on drugs when he was.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 28 points 1 year ago (3 children)

You can go to prison for buying a gun while being a drug user? Seriously?

[–] V4sh3r@lemmy.world 39 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The crime is lying on the form. If he'd checked yes on being a drug user, they would have just denied the application.

[–] iforgotmyinstance@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

It was dismissed as frivolous. Plus it's an amendment violation.

Same reasons we keep letting reds get away with gun crimes tbh.

[–] SulaymanF@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

In reality, no they don’t normally proscute lying on the form, but Republicans demanded a prosecution. Normally his punishment would be probation, but the judge is considering something harsher.

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago

No, a judge dismissed it, because it's stupid.

[–] Hubi@feddit.de 11 points 1 year ago

I thought these things earned you the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 31 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Because he's the Democratic presidents son. The Republicans need to attack the president who isn't a Republican in any way they possibly can instead of helping the nation.

[–] bestnerd@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

He also holds no office, unlike the previous who’s entire gene pool besides Baron and one other. But this guy demands full congressional power

[–] hglman@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

He's a privileged rich person and tax evasion is confirmed as a crime that needs to be enforced on the rich. Is he getting dragged down bc of politics? Yes, does that mean he should get away with crime, no absolutely not?

[–] PetDinosaurs@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I agree. Tax evasion should be a serious "pound me in the ass" prison charge plus asset seizure. White collar crimes are far more pervasive than they should be allowed to be. They also cause death and suffering in the same way other crimes do.

But, I believe in fairness. Let's do to him whatever happened to Trump the last time he evaded taxes.

Edit: you know what? I'm getting retributive. I think he deserves 10x the punishment trump got.

[–] Syndic@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

Well one major point of the western justice system is supposed to be that the law applies to everyone equally. Now that's certainly not the case for rich people and I'm all for that to change. But this change needs to be done for the whole rich people class. Using political power to only force it upon one person for obvious political reasons is not justice. Especially when you can be sure that the people calling for a harsh punishment for him almost certainly have evaded taxes as well.

[–] sat012e@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago (2 children)

My sister is the only conservative in our family. Her husband's family are all conservative. My mom loves to push their buttons about Trump, I'm less willing to engage because I'm not going to change their minds, so why bother?

I was at my sister's house while her MIL was there, and our mom was not there. I guess my sister and her MIL were feeling cheeky, so they started talking politics at me and asked if I believed in Hunter Biden's laptop.

Yep, I believe he had a laptop.

Did I believe the photos were real?

Yep, that dude's a moron and overall pretty crappy person. If he did something illegal, arrest him, prosecute him, fire him into the sun for all I care.

I have too much sense to follow that up with "... just like Trump and his kids", and thankfully my niece came around to chat and the politics conversation ended.
