Jason Hickel, one of the authors of that paper, also wrote a good one about unequal exchange, showing that poverty in the Global South is pretty much created and maintained by Global North countries who drain land, labour, and goods from the South to feed their greed and overconsumption. This unequal exchange (or 'drain') amounts to about 30x what Global South countries receive in aid, and it is enough to eliminate extreme poverty dozens of times over. 
Love that a sizeable part of Jason Hickel's career is just publishing empirical works that debunk neoliberal and Western propaganda. o7

No you see sweaty, what the British did was akshually communism because it was done by the government, and communism means anything the government does. So those 100 million deaths should be added to COMMUNISM'S death toll.

He also tried mental gymnasticing his way around blaming the US's genocide of indigenous Americans on communism, even though he's completely ok with the results because Murica fuck yeah. Over a million alone died in the USA just from covid, the virus that showed the world that capitalism can't and won't handle a crisis.
That's not even including the number of preventable medical deaths, starvation, homelessness etc.

It was the editor that was making shit up. You can read about this even on Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Book_of_Communism [In particular, Margolin, who authored the book's chapter on Vietnam, stated that "he has never mentioned a million deaths in Vietnam"]
