Good timing for a wholesome childhood memory.

Too late to explore space or own housing, too early to get rich streaming all the video game playing I did growing up. Just in time to be a 12 year old on the early Internet and seeing shit like this

wasn't there some sort of weird Q-Anon conspiracies surrounding the eclipse?

wasn't there some sort of weird Q-Anon conspiracies surrounding {Insert literally anything here}

Yes.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 13 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

What were they? (About the eclipse.)

a real opportunity for smugglers and cartels and migrants to come right in.”

Sigh

[–] Jimmyeatsausage@lemmy.world 21 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Ahh yes, under cover of shade

[–] ours@lemmy.world 17 points 7 months ago (1 children)

"While everyone is watching the sun, we'll crouch down and sneak right past them."

evidently their political worldview was heavily influenced by classic vaudevillian antics and screwball cartoons

As a GM I would give my players a bonus to stealth during a total eclipse if they wanted to sneak past some guards, so I think this is a very valid take. ;-)

Yeah I know right? Joe Biden should have done more to stop the eclipse!

[–] frezik@midwest.social 5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

When else could the cartels cross the region under cover of darkness? It's not something that happens every night.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Oh I so fucking called that when I found out that the path of totality went straight through Eagle Pass.

I'm just assuming, probably correctly. I don't bother with that nonsense. But yes is a safe answer since everything's a freaking conspiracy with that bunch of nutjobs.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

Neither do I, I just saw a headline the other day.

It was rapture when the path of this eclipse crossed the path of the eclipse two years ago. I think it was somewhere in Missouri/Iliinois. If you ascended, congrats. I get to go to work tomorrow.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 12 points 7 months ago (2 children)

nope. still here.

So. Did we finally get rid of the jackasses?

[–] GTKashi@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Safe to assume that if the rapture was real, most people thinking they were righteous enough to get raptured are most certainly missing their religion's arbitrary mark, so us decent, upstanding heathens would end up stuck with most of them here anyway.

I'm also still here, so...

Oh, you meant the other kind of jackass.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

well... I meant the religious fruitcake variety.

I assume if a rapture did happen... it'd be all over the news. and uh, celebrations.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 17 points 7 months ago

wasn’t there some sort of weird Q-Anon conspiracies surrounding ~~the eclipse~~ everything that ever happens?

The answer is yes.

[–] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 43 points 7 months ago

I love how the media amplifies Trump's advertising reach by 2x. If I were a Trump supporter, I'd be making alts to upvote stuff like this

[–] astrsk@kbin.social 34 points 7 months ago

That’s Peter Griffin…

[–] june@lemmy.world 29 points 7 months ago (7 children)

My mother posted this unironically to her Facebook feed. Said ‘we need to eclipse the bad guys’.

Times like this I wish I was still talking to her and she knew I was queer.

[–] MalachaiConstant@lemmy.world 13 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Times like this I wish I was still talking to her and she knew I was queer.

Ugh, same. I broke all contact with mine a little before the pandemic and now a tiny part of me will always be dying to know how deep into the cult she sank.

[–] june@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago (5 children)

part of me will always be dying to know how deep into the cult she sank.

It’s the reason I still stalk her Facebook lol

I broke contact with my mom 2 years ago on my birthday when she (middle school dropout) decided to tell me I (a college grad who learned how to research validity and reliability of various claims and sources) am a gullible fool for taking the Covid vaccine and that I needed to get on YouTube to do my research. It was the final straw of disrespect piled on a thousand other small things.

I don’t miss her.

We do seem to be heading into a new dark age brought on by Trump, so I guess it fits.

Not as good as the time he posted an ad making himself Thanos just about to destroy the universe.

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.world 13 points 7 months ago

"I propose that we, and this is a very smart idea, privatise the sunlight. I know some very good people, some very smart investors, who can make the sun become profitable. We've got the best engineers, and these engineers - who are very smart, not a single one of them is a democrat, they are building this huge dish that we will put in orbit over the USA. It's going to block out most of the sun - you'll get a little bit, a little bit of sun, because we're that generous - but that big stupid ball in the sky needs to turn a profit. You know, I really think that nuclear mogul Mr Burns fixed this problem a long time ago, but democrats were too stupid to listen."

[–] Philharmonic3@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago

Stop giving this useless piece of shit attention

[–] TheJims@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It’s clearly trump… or is it the third guy from the left on the evolutionary chart?
