🤠 We will be around for a very long time, so you dont have to worry about us shutting down the instance anytime soon. We like performance and stability in our servers, and will upgrade the instance when its needed.

For the people who still believe the EU is anything more than an union for the interest of capital they have now put up this site as a promise of maybe possibly considering taxing the rich if we just sign a petition.

This is European "democracy". Many of these peoples petitions have been implemented so they can say there are mechanisms of straight democracy, but in reality these rarely impact anything.

I find it patricularly ghoulish that it is the economic union itself promoting this petition, it's the same playbook as in all the environmental things. Gives people false hope and an image that something is being done when in fact nothing will change. But a few more years of status quo is secured with things like these.

... That is if you are a citizen of the European Union. If the petition reaches 1 million signatures, the European Commission (basically the government of the EU) is legally required to at least introduce it as a proposed law.

A big plea to you to support "Tax-the-Rich". The aim is to tax the super-rich in order to finance more climate protection. If this EU citizens' initiative reaches certain thresholds, it must be scrutinised. A powerful tool if it is used.

The contribution would be used to combat climate change and inequality and would help to ensure that European citizens pay their fair share towards achieving these objectives.

The minimum threshold of signatories is only required a quarter of the EU countries, so in 7 of 27. France is already at 188% of the required threshold, Denmark at 88% and Germany at 80%

Even beginnen met een korte inleiding. Een tijdje terug was er opmerkelijk nieuws, Oostenrijkse erfgename uit BASF-familie geeft 25 miljoen euro weg Deze Marlene Engelhorn, zag ik nu, hoort ook bij Millionaires for Humanity die dit burger initiatief Tax the rich EU ondersteunen. Er zijn 1 miljoen handtekeningen nodig en wel met een minimum drempel aantal voor zeven landen uit de EU. Frankrijk zit als eerste al boven die drempel 🙂 Nederland staat op dit moment niet heel erg laag genoteerd dus als dit initiatief wat meer bekendheid krijgt dan zou Nederland ook over die drempel kunnen gaan. Als je kijkt op de site dan zie je dat het niet in Nederlands is vertaald en dat er bij het kopje Press ook niets in het Nederlands is te vinden (Wel in het Frans en Spaans). Misschien een extra reden om dit iniatitief bekender te laten worden. Tot ~~24~~ 9 October dit jaar kan er worden getekend. Dus geef het door aan iedereen waarvan je denkt dat zij ook zouden willen tekenen.
