Israel may benefit from a lack of alignment between the President and the Ayatollah. Pezeshkian pumping the breaks when the hype is being built up for a response means Israel can delay the breakout of widespread conflict, picking off strategic officers and infrastructure like they've been doing. they've got the Resistance on the back foot for a moment; they'll try to take advantage for a few more days before flipping the board over and welcoming the unpredictability that a ground incursion would bring
its state media. if Iranian leadership thought it was advantageous for people to believe he was alive while they discussed behind closed doors how to address this crisis, then they may as well lie. no one’s married to the truth during a tense moment like this

a huge percentage of Israelis have dual citizenship with the Western country they were born in, usually the US or UK, and flee there when violence flares up on the frontier. Netanyahu himself is an American from Philadelphia.
small nitpick that’s not relevant to the news, but the German Empire was much more gung ho about war than the Austrians, and the German military invested a lot of time and resources towards trying to sway the Austro-Hungarian nobility to come around on war. Israel is a tail that is skilled at wagging the dog, but Austria was a more traditional attached-to-the-ass tail that doesn’t call the shots.

it very well could be— given that the US has been urging de-escalation these past few weeks (albeit halfheartedly and ineffectively), i think any escalation is likely to be unilaterally israel
that’s not to absolve the US of guilt, of course. if they gave a shit and saw Arabs as human beings and not a political problem, they could very well put their foot down on this kind of rogue operation
