As someone who's used Xiaomi for years and years, had a Pixel too - the only thing that it doesn't beat western stuff with is cameras.

Unfortunately it is definitely true that iPhones take the nicest pictures - sure, sure, show me your best Samsung or Huawei images, or the highly regarded Pixel camera software - maybe you can capture the occasional landscape better - but pound for pound none of the phones I've ever had have taken nicer pictures than my partners outdated iPhone. Very annoying.

How would I connect to the same network from so far away? Is that impossible?

If I want to connect from far away, would a simple NordVPN do the trick?

Thanks. Yeah, didn't give the full specs - my bad. I'm gonna take the 7020 and maybe the G4. Another question though -

Am I right in thinking if I self host, storing a bunch of movies locally, I can then connect to my self hosted server from another location/computer and stream my personal library?

Thanks

Well sort of, but it's more that sometimes there's nuances to the tech that makes things better or worse, like people will say oh well Linux hosting works best on a post-(year) intel chip or whatever.

Youre right though, I should've added the full specs and asked questions based off that. I was just hastily posting from inside the cellar at work.

I have now googled regardless and I'm gonna take the Optiplex 7020

Was that libs? I really don't think it was. I think that talking about white women specifically started as an overly online politics thing - used by right wingers but also by chapoish online Leftists - or at least within the chapo circles there were those who found a home in using it, even if it didn't represent the majority of users.

I think it wasn't completely without validity - white men get a fair share of blaming (as they should), but that specificity missed out white women - a group it's fair to say has been very involved in liberal activist behaviours, 'girlboss' hustle culture, and a group that at the top is typified by Pelosi and her fangirls.

Then the rest of the internet took it and ran, and now I would be uncomfortable using it or giving it credit, because it's just become synonymous with general mysoginy. The dogwhistle is now audible to human ears.

dawg I couldn't even read the whole thing

I have mostly become a filter of depressing information and it doesn't get to me too much in the moment... but reading that stuff... I literally feel ill right now. My stomach feels turned and my heart feels heavy. My brain has slowed down to a halt.

All the loss so far is deeply depressing, and the future is existential on every level. It seems that we are just fucked.

Struggle session over MOTY

'An advertisement warning that U.S. fighter jets were ready to respond to provocations showed up on a dating app in Lebanon.

The warning appeared online last week in Arabic beneath pictures of U.S. warplanes: “Do not take up arms against the United States or its partners,” it said, noting that America “will protect its partners in the face of threats from the Iranian regime and its proxies.”

And to underscore the message: Central Command is “fully prepared” and ready to employ F-16 and A-10 aircraft “currently in the region.”

Séamus Malekafzali, a freelance journalist based in Lebanon, encountered Tinder advertisements purportedly from U.S. Central Command warning against joining Iranian-backed militants on Aug. 22. This ad was linked to a Central Command post on X, Malekafzali said.

why the fuck have they all glommed onto 'brat' so hard? It's unlike anything I've seen before.

Similar story all over Britain. Fuck sake.

Do I not get it or something?

It just felt like an individualist white middle class mans fantasy of how he'd totally outgrind and outsmart the prison system by doing epic taxes and being a good person

just befriend the prison guards!

play beautiful cultured classical music to these poor barbarous inmates as an act of # la resistance

then, totally own the corrupt system by exposing them to newspapers... the police and judicial system are otherwise perfect so the prison commissioner will kill himself rather than face the HARSH HARSH CONSEQUENCES that one could receive in America for money laundering... notwithstanding that the money laundering is chump change in comparison to the slave wage labour that the inmates are made to perform...

Morgan Freeman speaks in hope platitudes for the entire movie

Is this movie not just about how all you need to do is grin and grind to escape your hellish life?

Then people jerk it off for 'showing the humanity of prisoners for the first time EVER in cinema and not treating prison rape as a joke' - surely you can only find such a thing to be true if you have only ever seen about 5 movies in your life? Or is that just a pure indictment of the Hollywood system - that it only ever makes garbage visible?

Am I being cynical? Was I just in a bad mood?

Utterly cheesy and without charm.

Hilarious. Stacey Vint you absolute dickhead.

I mean seriously let's just think about it for a second - what did she expect? You have to be a serious fucking moron to even attempt this.

You're an unfit untrained 34 year old woman, whipped up into such a racist fury, that you attempt some shit straight off the battlefields of Carthage, except you're essentially riding the pig you set on fire and running into a horde of elephants.

Any of you who've been at a protest/riot and got up close to riot cops - let's be real - they are big scary bastards. I don't know where they find these apes but they're fucking massive and have full permission from the state to smash your face in.

Like, I sometimes see a street copper and think... 'I'm a big guy, I've done combat and contact sports, I think if that copper wanted to nick me he'd need a couple of mates to shepherd me in and get me down...' But when the riot cop brigade comes marching out I think 'fuck me, am i seriously about to get into beef with these absolute cave trolls?' I'm often in awe at the size of these units, and their grizzled fuck-ugly mashed up faces... Proper measurehead thumblords. It's like if you bred Ross Kemp with himself 8 times and then a final time with a 5kg slab of raw chicken.

Legitimately, you would need to be lacking in all critical thinking skills to try this ancient move.

She's essentially gone and done a Boudicca.

WARNING: PSYCHIC DAMAGE AWAITS. LIBERALISM ON 12 COUNTS. BBC JOURNALISM MOMENTS AHEAD.

BBC's headline: Western ambassadors shun Nagasaki ceremony over Israel snub - BBC News.

Highlights:

  • "The mayor of the south-western Japanese city, Shiro Suzuki, said on Thursday that Israel not being invited to attend was not politically motivated but added there would be no change to the decision.

Nothing is political. Repeat. Nothing is political.

  • The remarks come a day after it was revealed that the ambassadors of the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the US and the European Union had sent a letter to Nagasaki in mid-July saying "it would become difficult for us to have high-level participation" in the event if Israel was excluded.

The usual culprits.

  • "It is unfortunate that they have communicated to us that their ambassadors are not able to attend," he said. British Ambassador Longbottom (who would not be attending) had said that the decision not to invite Israel created an unfortunate and misleading equivalency with Russia and Belarus (the only other countries not invited to this year's ceremony.)

Liberal moment.

  • Mr Suzuki said security reasons, including potential demonstrations, were behind his decision not to invite Israel to the commemoration ceremony. But he said he regretted the ambassadors' decision.

This bits interesting. I actually think Suzuki might be trying to cover his tracks and appeal to liberalism/security while truly believing in his decision to boycott Israel. I don't know much about him, but as you'll see later in the article he did call for a ceasefire.

  • US Ambassador Rahm Emanuel will also not attend. An embassy statement said the mayor of Nagasaki politicised the event by snubbing Israel.

POLITICIANS. STOP BEING POLITICAL. THE NUKING OF NAGASAKI WAS NOT POLITICAL. ISRAEL IS NOT POLITICAL. STOP BEING POLITICAL, OR I WILL HAVE TO POLITICISE YOU.

  • A spokesperson told the BBC the ambassador would instead go to a peace ceremony at a temple in Tokyo. Israel's ambassador to Japan, Gilad Cohen, who was invited to and attended a memorial ceremony in Hiroshima on Tuesday, said Nagasaki’s decision "sends a wrong message to the world".

Does it now, Cohen.

  • In June, Mr Suzuki said Nagasaki had sent a letter to the Israeli embassy calling for an "immediate ceasefire" in Gaza.

Gottem. Ish.

  • Israel's massive military offensive in Gaza has led to the deaths of almost 40,000 Palestinians, Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry says.

So they say, those Hamas terrorists. By the way, Israel doesn't kill. It leads to the deaths of persons.

  • It was triggered by the 7 October Hamas attacks on Israel, in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken back to Gaza as hostages.

Had to get that one in. It's like the liberal version of getting the stone island badge in. Definitely no history before that point. Nothing to see here. No politics or history to be had here. Just good and bad. 👍

This one's a picture from the Brighton protest. Similar thing across the whole country. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/riots-uk-today-london-birmingham-protest-immigration-centre-b2592456.html - 'UK riots live: Up to 25,000 counter-protesters march in clear message to far-right after 100 rallies planned - Around 100 far-right rallies failed to materialise as thousands of counter-protesters took to the streets of the UK'

I went to a different one. 2 skinheads skulked around the outside but did nothing, then got bag searched by the police and told to go home. The whole counter protest turned into a celebration, with people marching the streets with slogans, music, singing, dancing, drinking, and so on and on. Just a big left-ish street party of all ages and races.

It was actually very heartwarming. I overheard a lot of great things. In particular, especially from older immigrant men, who expressed grateful surprise at the numbers and mixed demographic of the anti fascists. Many said they felt loved by the city. A very merry time.
