Absolutely. Im so numb to the violence but it still overwhelms me. It's good that you still feel that emotion for others, we must always remember that a revolutionary is guided by great feelings of love ❤️

On a side note, is there much info on the dress code in Iran? From what I can see, it's mainly about covering your legs from the ankles up, covering arms from the elbows up, and covering the top of your head if you're a woman. And even then I imagine foreigners get less hassle.

Like, all of the pictures of Iranian women in Chabod (the typically-black head-to-toe covering) is purely exploiting for propaganda purposes the women who congregate in their choice of clothing.

Those women have more autonomy over their appearance and modesty than a lot of women do in the west. We may not have formal religious or moral police, but instead we have at least a third of society who harass, assault, and ---- women deemed "not modest enough". We have recreated modesty police culturally yet talk of liberating women into our own fucked up systems of misogyny.

It's my favourite Gramsci quote if not the most harrowing.

Agreed. I don't think its about necessarily ignoring or permanently unplugging, but for example using RSS feeds to get news in a more structured manner, or temporarily uninstalling apps and reinstalling later to catch up on things.

Like, I'm super interested in this stuff too, but also I don't need to know the up to the minute headlines on what is happening on the front lines of Ukraine, or the minute by minute preparations of Iranian ballistic missile bases. But having those apps on my phone during these specific times makes it likely that I'll be refreshing constantly.

In the end it's not about un-informing ourselves but accepting that a small delay in that information will do our souls some benefit.

Not saying you should ignore the state of the world, or stop talking about it (I've done the opposite today) but social media is not conducive to that effort, even if the face of it may seem informative.

Taking breaks from apps that turn these events into pseudo-entertainment and attention sucking vacuums makes it harder to engage with that.

how long until the first trump card holder gets muscled into an unmarked van and sent to El Salvador anyway?

what if you ate a pickle

To the shame of the socialist movement, we have allowed “socialists” to join our ranks who do not care for the working class, who are obsessed with our transgender comrades, who seek to warp us into being oppressors, not liberators.

These “comrades” are easily spotted, often existing solely on the internet and in internal party meetings, never seen on pickets or in the community.

Again, we say look at America, the anti-trans movement there has led to oppression against all women.

Will our “comrades” hang their heads in shame as Britain takes the same path? Or will they continue to pathetically parrot anti-Marxist and transphobic lines?

I'm getting an ADHD assessment soon and I've been sent a blood pressure monitor. I did a test just now and it came up 144/97 which is apparently high (stage 1 or 2 hypertension depending on the diagram you check).

I was caffeinated at the time so I'm gonna try tomorrow but I'm curious what my target mmHg should be for when I'm making changes to my health.

Side note but if I'm regularly getting to stage 2 hypertension to barely keep focus at work and crash shortly after then maybe that's a good example of why unmedicated ADHD lowers your life expectancy

Some light watching for this week's expedition into the cool zone.

Come and enjoy a story of how a Minecraft stock exchange with a market cap of $10,000 USD (aka real fuckin money) crashed thanks to kids roleplaying neoliberalism.

Dan Norris MP was one of many political enemies to the Corbyn-led Labour party, during 2018 "speaking out" against alleged antisemitism of the Palestine-advocate and courgette farmer.

So at least my perspective in the UK is rough: endless burnt-out teachers resorting to escalating punitive measures to control kids being raised on landlordism, misogyny, etc. that makes me fear the kind of environment id be exposing a future kid to.

Of course, homeschooling and alternative education is stigmatised across the political sphere, whether it's for legitimate reasons or otherwise. As socialists you also get exposed to a lot of critiques of so-called traditional school systems.

Do any parents here (or otherwise) have experience with homeschooling, or stuff like montessori, democratic schools, etc?

I ask this because whilst *arr apps supposedly import downloaded torrents to their respective media folders, my downloads folder for qbittorrent is over 200GB in size when I've got zero incomplete downloads.

Have I set something up wrong? Or is it setting some kind of hard link between the downloads and media folder?

Is there anyhwhere that has any kind of benchmark for different hardware when hosting minecraft servers? I'm considering migrating to my homelab from a sparkedhost instance but I dont know if it'll be worth potentially worse performance (Ryzen 7000-series x3 vCPUs versus my i5 9500 running concurrent services)

Nextcloud, Qbittorrent, Truenas and loads of other svcs take optional email credentials for sending alerts and other features (eg. password recovery for nextcloud).

What email providers do people usually use to make this process simple to set up? For example, Microsoft doesn't allow basic auth anymore so it's supposedly not possible to use via most of these setups, and some other services seem like they have a low inbox size (does this matter?)

I'm pretty new to this so it's probably a permissions thing, How can I set up my datasets on this (new) server to allow nextcloud to install without crapping itself?

The app lifecycle logs arent too helpful - they just say postgres is unhealthy and brings down the container.
