It’s absolutely a muddying of the waters. But I’d like to be exacting in my criticism of those people. Since I can see a situation in which climate change creates the conditions (drier, hotter, drought, more wind etc) that cause human-started fires to grow larger and out of control. When folks start to talk about “arson” in relation to wildfires, is there any truth to it and I just have too narrow a definition of arson, or is it purely just a muddying of the waters?

Where is that site tagline about “I will never be friends with a small business owner”
Ugh yes don’t remind me. I need to get diagnosed or not diagnosed with colitis. Pretty sure I don’t have it, but should find out anyway. My doctor wants to do a cat scan, but I might just ask if we can do a colonoscopy and get it over with. Waiting for the spring in any case, due to Covid and other reasons
Cause deep down they understand them. White settlers identifying with other white settlers. Even though they might legitimately disagree with them, fundamentally they don’t see them as a threat to their existence and view the disagreement as purely academic. They understand and are sympathetic to how these people arrived at their views. And really they’re only one hardship away from becoming completely reactionary themselves, as we saw with Covid.
Idk, that’s always been my take.

I think The Band are one of my favorite bands of all time so definitely them. Big Pink, self-titled and of course their live concert The Last Waltz are the staples for them.
But I’m not listening to anything too obscure. Neil Young, Bob Dylan. A lot of people have a strong opinion on Dylan but imo Highway 61 is a perfect album, and one of Huey Newton’s favorite albums in fact.
The Byrds, Van Morrison. The Grateful Dead do some folky stuff, especially on Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty. Also if you want obscure check out their pre-Dead jug revival band Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions.
Buffy Ste Marie is one of my favorite musicians of all time. Sweet America is good by her. There was some controversy with her earlier in the year calling into question her claim to Native American ancestry. It was mostly reactionary bullshit iirc. She also has an album called Illuminations which has been praised retroactively for being a very forward looking electronic album. There’s also Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell, and more traditional folk revival stuff, like Dave Van Ronk and Odetta.
Pretty sure this still is a thing
See I think this is what I mean. Like in the past the word “arson” has meant, to me, for example someone burning down another person’s house intentionally and maliciously. And I think a lot of people have the same understanding. And so I think a lot people hear the word arson linked to wildfire, and they picture people going out to the woods with the malicious intention to start large forest fires. And so it’s easier to accept the right-wing conspiracy of soros-funded arsonists intentionally starting fires to then blame on climate change.
The way you frame it makes it seem more like it’s farmers who, while the burning is illegal, are engaging in a generations old practice with no intention to start a huge forest fire. At least in Spain’s case. Which I think is a completely different situation than what most people (or at least us Americans) picture when they hear arson.
