This is another weird take from that thread. Wouldn't "valuing the well being of every specific person in a society" require that society working as a "collective" to organize toward that end? And wouldnt organizing towards that end require restricting individuals actions? Like if some individual wanted to dump toxic shit into the local lake wouldn't the society need to stop him to ensure the well being of all the other specific persons who drink from that lake? Do Libs even think about the things they say?

there are many such examples of western inferiority, but the one I remember reading about that broke me out of the Exceptionalism indoctrinated mindset was in this book about the global history of salt production/consumption. (Kurlansky)

it was a minor historical footnote, but it took until the 18th century for Euroids to "invent" a highly effective, low tech, simple concussive drilling mechanism that had literally been widely used in eastern Asia since ancient times, as it could be deployed/rigged up with like wooden beams, some rope and a counterweight.

after many little things, that one broke the dam and I started operating from the assumption that global civilization and sophistication has always been centered in South and East Asia. they invented everything there first, probably a long time before euroids, and we just pretend not to notice that there is an older analog for every European "invention" that we can learn about.

I came across this article a while back inspired by that reference in Salt. Very cool stuff.
