This is another weird take from that thread. Wouldn't "valuing the well being of every specific person in a society" require that society working as a "collective" to organize toward that end? And wouldnt organizing towards that end require restricting individuals actions? Like if some individual wanted to dump toxic shit into the local lake wouldn't the society need to stop him to ensure the well being of all the other specific persons who drink from that lake? Do Libs even think about the things they say?

Edit: forgot to include link

"individualism is when you care about individuals" is about as accurate as "salaries are paid for in salt"

Watch and be amazed as liberals reinvent such time honored classics as white mans burden

they never got rid of it, its still here. Its just said in terms of 'foreign aid' and 'development' now. Its always been this way, they've never stopped being the same people who would murder the world for profit.

The chauvinism is off the charts. Imagine believing that Europeans were the only people capable of thinking of empiricism

“Enlightenment principles” is such a big dog whistle. Retvrn adjacent.

Slaves in La Amistad when the enlightenment values of individual autonomy hit and they gain the freedom to die of a terrible disease in overcrowded quarters:

Why do they call it Western Hegemony? Lol, Its USA hegemony, only they call the shots and the rest (canada, EU) summit and follow

Hey now, Israel does have an overwhelmingly strong say in everything "western" as well. Although whether thats because of the Samson Option is unknown.

It’s as if social democracy/liberalism is the best attempts at the golden path…

Imagine being a Social Democrat and not having an understanding that, as an ideology, Social Democracy needs the threat of Communism to keep the capitalists giving concessions.

there are many such examples of western inferiority, but the one I remember reading about that broke me out of the Exceptionalism indoctrinated mindset was in this book about the global history of salt production/consumption. (Kurlansky)

it was a minor historical footnote, but it took until the 18th century for Euroids to "invent" a highly effective, low tech, simple concussive drilling mechanism that had literally been widely used in eastern Asia since ancient times, as it could be deployed/rigged up with like wooden beams, some rope and a counterweight.

after many little things, that one broke the dam and I started operating from the assumption that global civilization and sophistication has always been centered in South and East Asia. they invented everything there first, probably a long time before euroids, and we just pretend not to notice that there is an older analog for every European "invention" that we can learn about.

I came across this article a while back inspired by that reference in Salt. Very cool stuff.
