I think it's just standard rich person nonsense. The amount of destruction wrought by people who want to be able to see something they could otherwise easily walk to from their floor-to-ceiling windowed dining room is incredibly high. I have a vague recollection of some rich tech guy buying the mansion in front of his and demolishing it for a better view of something.
i'd have thought that would be less secure
clear line of sight for a sniper on a boat
