On this week this niche leftist forum was first launched (its was the 24th or 25th i think) Formed from the Chapotraphouse subreddit remnants that survived the reddit ban over the calls of violence against confederate slave owners, the first admins decided to use Lemmy as its base. Originally called Chapo.chat (ChaCha) Hexbear has grown into one of the biggest instances in the lemmyverse.
In this last 5 years hexbear has survived many diffent events from numerous struggle sessions, mod clique-users conflicts, wrecker incursions from other instances and sites, this image , a decent amount of fedidrama with other instances and the domain crisis, we still thrive with over 5 million comments and 375k posts.
I still continue my dictatorial rule over the general megathread for now over 4 years now, this time locked in the chapo comm so it can be more easily moderated, c/indigenous has now grown to 750 subs which im very happy plus now i take care of the empoc mega which has been pretty chill so far.
I still really enjoy the fedidrama, it fun to see all the fedilibs always thinking about hexbear despide the fact that they are on defederated instances and they can ust ignore us, we live rent free on their minds

my favorite jill stein voooter (likely fake tho, nothing on last month search matches)
I would've followed you to the end, my brother, my captain, my King.
He's so close, someone send this man some theory.
Best line that wasn't in the book
i like "the meat is back on the menu boys", it summons such a hilarious picture of orc society
i think i even vaguely remember og onering rage about it
And is the origin of the boonta vista segment 'looks like menu's back on the menu' which is one of the better bits
Mystery Liquid has gotta be my favorite
I'd probably go;
Paging Dr. Lucy is a strong pick, very catchy intro too
If we're picking based on the stinger alone instead of the whole segment I pick Big Egg, it gets stuck in my head constantly.
Otherwise I love the Subway reviews segment and stinger equally
I'm hoping they announce a live show in my city. They had the Brissy one earlier this year and said they may do other capitals towards the second halfπ€π€
Literally everything Gimli says isn't in the book as far as I recall. Gillis was a smart dude in the books.
I wish that scene with the orbs hadn't been done as it was because it turned a really complex squabble between 3 factions with different goals whonhad been run ragged and now had to decide which goal would win out was interesting as fuck. A lot of details surrounding that got skipped over.
Yeah, I feel like they did Gimli really dirty by turning him into the comedic relief. It worked well with Pippin as comedic relief in Fellowship but once Two Towers started making Gimli the funny one they just killed the character and also just made the films a little worse.
Which orb scene are you referring to, though? The Palantir scene? I can't remember how it was in the book anymore.
I wrote orcs and auto correct happened. That must hafe seemed super confusing.
So in the books its 2 different parties of orcs with different goals that end out with a temporary alliance attacking the fellowship. In the book while the fellowship is heading down the river they're getting sniped at first on the wear by saruman's guys and then in the east by Sauron's. During that boat ride Legolas spots and shoots down a nazgul who's flying way up above. While the isengard orcs get merry and Pippin on the west side of the river the east side mordor orcs are crossing and going with cause sauron doesn't want sariman getting the ring. Later Grishnak who doesn't just want to eat the hobbita in the books meets back with the nazgul who was shot down and was on the way to report saruman being a traitor to Sauron and to get the hobbits back to mordor abd not yet saruman get em cause both parties believe Merry or Pippin have the ring. The third party are orcs from Moria who just wanna get a couple revenge kills in so they csn go back saying they did something.
Ah, that makes more sense. I didn't remember the entire series of events but, yeah, I do remember that part was different. Totally forgot about the Moria orcs, pretty funny though, I can relate to that.
I do remember there being a line about Boromir, I believe when Pippin was speaking with Denethor, about how Boromir blew the Horn of Gondor but instead of assistance more and more enemies came. Struck me as so tragic at the time, I don't know where it is anymore.
There was another line that Merry says about friendship, in relation to Pippin after they were separated, that would always bring a tear to my eye.
He was trying to draw more enemies eith the horn and getting some allies would help, but by that point boomer kinda knew he had pushed Frodo to go solo or at the very least he had to leave the company and probably also felt the need to make amends for trying to take the ring. All that with his Gondor pride meant he was gonna stand off as hard as he could. The fellowships was always gonna separate but the circumstances it happens under was very different than snyone had thought. Merry and Pippin didn't know shit about what was going on and probsvlt addime they were all going to mordor.
Oh, yeah, for sure. I just meant it was sad to read, like Boromir understood he was going to die but he held it down regardless.
Oh, that would be a great list to read through!
I'm sure someone has compiled a list of lines not in the books.
It would be easier to compile a list of lines that are in the books tbh. A lot of stuff is also moved around or said by someone else. There are dozens of book to movie comparison videos for lord of the rings on YouTube. Id recommend just reading the books tho, cause they rule. My Tolkien nerd instincts say it would be one of the few things Tolkien would have maybe admitted to liking about the movies. It would mean tweaking Boromir just slightly cause in the book he is going back to Minas Tirith and prior to Gandald dying Aragorn eas gonna go with him but after was split between that and going with Frodo, they knew the party was gonna split at some point and even talked about how to manage that before getting to Amon Hen and getting attacked, which kinda forced the decisions.
