I must be in a weird demographic niche because I feel nostalgic about pixel art games, but not low-poly games. They can be good, but the aesthetic on its own does nothing for me. This does look pretty fun, though, ngl.

I'm in the same boat. I think it has something to do with the PS1 and N64 only being out for 5 years before PS2/Gamecube, so it was a pretty short window. It's also worth noting that modern pixel art can look a lot better than the classics because resource usage won't be a concern, but higher-fidelity low-poly games aren't really possible.

I'm just waiting for all the indie games emulating PS2 graphics and design principles, though I assume the leap in fidelity might be big enough that it makes them out of reach of the average bedroom game developer
