Or their children, who didn't even work to get to that point. If unconditional cash grants are bad, outlaw inheritance; it's just an unconditional cash grant awarded by genetic lottery. If working for success it's so paramount, make everyone do it.
I'm all for socialism long term solution. I'm confused as to how that is an alternative to voting against the present greatest threat to socialism that can be voted against. What is the material implementation of "socialism" which provides a timely alternative to that action?
Optimists are aspirational. The placebo effect is real, and pessimists use it counterproductively.
I like pancakes. And green beans.
I'm not a Liberal, they're not my party. They are the party out of the two front runners which is more aligned with my interests than the other.
The left needs to realize it's not a matter of entitlement, it's simple game theory harm reduction. The environment in which you pursue leftist goals will be predominantly colored by the winner in November. You can enable an environment which is unfavorable to leftist empowerment, or extremely unfavorable to leftist empowerment.
Would you rather try to push progressive action under Biden, or Trump? I personally believe progressive action will be more successful under Biden than Trump, so I will be voting accordingly. Blue conservatives are better for leftists than red fascists.
The time to demand more isn't 4 months before the election. It's not really the year of the election. The time to demand more is 10+ years before the election, supporting better candidates in smaller elections, rallying behind those candidates as they climb the ladder, and supporting those candidates right after the last election before the one you want them to win.
But I don't see that. I see no more than a slim minority doing any demanding until the last minute, when it does more harm than good.
Yeah, I think any other Dem candidate is a gamble: you lose out on the significant incumbent boost, you only have 4 months to campaign if you start now, and you risk losing momentum on the moderate vote. This isn't an election I want to gamble with, especially with the recent SCOTUS ruling. Everything said and done, I don't think the benefits outweigh the risks.
November 6th is when we should start pushing for significant changes. 11th hour fuckery isn't going to help this cycle.
I agree with all of this, but it's not an alternative, it's just an additional vector of action. My question is about alternatives to Biden for president in this election.
People who like Biden are doubling down because they’re afraid of a contentious replacement process or an untested candidate falling flat and they genuinely think Biden is the best option in this context.
I don't particularly care for Biden. He's better than I expected, but certainly not ideal. He's still pretty clearly the best option this election. Certainly not the best choice to run the country, but once you account for odds of success, there's really not a viable alternative
You got a practical alternative you'd like to share with the class?
The third line makes it pretty clear that he's still pretty young and hasn't figured out what he likes yet.
Again, actions I support. These actions, however, are not mutually exclusive to voting in elections for the lesser evil. In fact, these actions are more substantially suppressed under the greater evil. The rational action then is to use all avenues available to oneself, including but not limited to voting for whichever of the two dominant parties is less detrimental to action on other avenues.
One of the two dominant parties is objectively worse for the organization of the working class. Vote for the less worse party, while you organize and pressure the powers that be.
