RIP Arkane Austin. I know at this point the people who made Prey aren't there anymore but it still stings

lol hi-fi rush came out of nowhere, sold really well and was critically lauded, what are these money freaks thinking

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 28 points 6 months ago

They aren't releasing new games or fat DLC season passes this quarter. This is bad for the stonks. stonks-down

Is it bad for actual real money? Shut the fuck up. STONKS GO UP. stonks-up

focus on high-impact games

Oh, so Call of Duty

Great, amazing, thank God we don't have to worry about losing Call of Duty

Within the next two decades, all of art and entertainment will be produced under three companies solely as loss-leaders to get people into their eco-systems. People simply don't have enough disposable income to support these industries and the money that is there is concentrated in a handful of big properties. It's basically inevitable.

nah there's consooomer money for the treats, just not for the treats and the suits picking the pockets of the workers

This is basically the Microsoft Strategy™.

They buy out smaller tech companies, squeeze them dry and then close them down.

This is like what the 15th game studio they've done this to since Rareware in the mid 2000s?

Following in EA's footsteps

It's almost like there's a systemic issue inherent to capitalism thonk

Dishonored is legit one of my favorite games ever.

[–] worlds_okayest_mech_pilot@hexbear.net 20 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Same here. At least Arkane Lyon is still around (as far as I can tell) so maybe Dishonored still has hope. These closures still hurt though

[–] Swoosegoose@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago (1 children)

They're currenty working on a Blade game

[–] worlds_okayest_mech_pilot@hexbear.net 16 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (2 children)

Oh yeah, I forgot. Superhero games. sadness

[–] DyingOfDeBordom@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

Blade isn't a superhero tho he's a daywalker

Are you saying its not open season on all suck heads? Because that is exactly what a suck head would say. Reveal yourself now vampire!

Utter stupidity. I mean sure redfall had to die, that shit was never gonna get good, but why the hell did they close the studio. Also did hi-fi rush sell poorly or something?

[–] Blep@hexbear.net 18 points 6 months ago (1 children)

No it sold decently, but most people probably played it on game pass.

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago (2 children)

People also played Starfield on gamepass and that game sucks, why not fire Todd and the rest of those losers instead?

[–] JohnBrownNote@hexbear.net 8 points 6 months ago

i saw a line about "devastating cuts" at bethesda too, but that never means throwing out incompetents like todd or that other guy we hate because he sucks

[–] GoebbelsDeezNuts@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago

From what ive heard through the grapevine Bethesda severely underpays talent based on their size and reputation. Fire Todd, keep everyone else and pay them more probably

The game director of Prey is working on something that sounds similar with his own studio. I'm holding out hope, even though their last game (Weird West) wasn't that good.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago

I didn't like Weird West at all really but I'm willing to give Not-Prey 2 a shot for sure

[–] dkr567@hexbear.net 12 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Of course the incompetent fucks at Bethesda game studios are left intact while developers that actually made an interesting game (Tango) gets gutted.
