To save anyone wondering a click:

New York Judge Juan Merchan set sentencing for July 11.

[–] fiat_lux@kbin.social 16 points 6 months ago

I appreciate you

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

Maybe the judge chose free Slurpee day because if Trump says he can't attend, there will be video evidence of him going to 7-eleven to the contrary

[–] Beetlejuice001@lemmy.wtf 50 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (4 children)

I’ll only believe it when he’s in jail. Which there is a possibility of now. Has anyone noticed he is scowling in every picture the past few months? He thinks since his mug shot he is Al Capone or something. It seems in almost every picture I can remember he’s smiling ear to ear, like a pig in shit. He’s a snake oil conman not a gangster

[–] Glowstick@lemmy.world 56 points 6 months ago (2 children)

There's nothing to believe or not believe. This is pure fact. Donald Trump is now a convicted felon

[–] InternetUser2012@midwest.social 31 points 6 months ago (4 children)

34 time felon. The "christian" party of law and order is going to have a lot to answer for voting for a cheating husband, lier, and now a felon x34. Just to name enough that if it was a Democrat the republikkklows would have pitch forks and fire ready while losing their fucking minds.

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.world 15 points 6 months ago (1 children)

His supporters already believe he's innocent, and literally nothing will change their minds (if anything would, it would have happened already). The man could start carrying around a pitchfork and surgically implant horns and people would continue in their delusion.

My main hope from all of this is that he sees jail time, and is less able to campaign. Getting him out of the news is probably the best thing for the country.

[–] randompasta 9 points 6 months ago

That's why I enjoy arguing with them that he's literally the antichrist / false prophet.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago

What's 34 more pieces of information for them to ignore on top of the mountain that's already there?

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

He is an exemplary christian.

[–] KingJalopy@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

My thoughts exactly.

[–] ThePyroPython@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

This changes nothing, they will still vote for him.

Progressives had better get their guns now before the Christian Fascists get into power.

Good luck with the civil war.

[–] quicklime@lemm.ee 12 points 6 months ago

Exactly. Even if he gets an appeal, even if he wins such an appeal, even if his sentence gets commuted or otherwise obstructed or diluted, we can truthfully refer to him forever and always as a convicted felon on 34 counts.

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 12 points 6 months ago (2 children)

There is no way he's going to jail over this. I mean I wish, but I don't think that sentence would be consistent with similar cases. This is just the appetizer. He needs to be found guilty in a case with teeth like the classified documents.

[–] Infynis@midwest.social 4 points 6 months ago (2 children)

There haven't been any similar cases to this

He absolutely still won't see prison, but it's not because of sentencing guidelines

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

There haven't?

Being an ex-president isn't what it would be compared to.

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

There absolutely have been felony falsified records cases with first time offenders. His political status makes the case noteworthy but since our laws don't treat him as being different from anyone else (at least until the Supreme Court rules on that), there is plenty of precedent here.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The judge did indeed treat him very differently when he was in contempt, so I very much doubt he will receive equal treatment now. He will be treated with kids gloves and given the extra light sentencing. I expect some strongly worded speech, at most.

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 1 points 6 months ago

For sure. My point was no one gets jail, so Trump certainly won't, and there will be no room to complain he's getting preferential treatment because the absolute most he can get is a slap on the wrist. If the judge decided to go absolute ham and jail him due to how egregious it is in the context of a presidential election, it would be appealed and thrown out immediately.

Some folks are holding out faint hope for jail, but that will not happen and would play right into Trump's hand if it did.

[–] lemmefixdat4u@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Best outcome would be if Merchan gives him 4 years of probation, just in case he wins the election. That turns into prison time if he commits another crime.

[–] iAmTheTot@kbin.social 5 points 6 months ago

Which there is a possibility of now.

0% chance he sees the inside of a cell, don't get your hopes up. Not from this case.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

He's the Thomas Midgley Jr of politics, a bumbling harbinger of doom, another unheeded cautionary tale in the litany of unintended consequences we call history.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 18 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (2 children)

This is all turning into the Trump Presidential Circus Parade to the National Election

American politics are a joke at this point and the whole world is wondering what's going on under the Red, White and Blue Big Top Circus Show this week. The tickets are expensive, the chairs are uncomfortable, the food will make you sick, the shows are shitty, it makes children cry, the clowns scare people and it's all powered by a fundraising Christian preacher just outside the tent.

[–] Beetlejuice001@lemmy.wtf 14 points 6 months ago (2 children)

It won’t be a joke if he gets elected. Nobody will be laughing.

If Putin is incontinent from his cancer treatments he probably has more on his mind, like losing to Ukraine or dying.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

I’ve not heard anything about that. But regardless I think Putin is able to bear great personal pain to relish in the suffering of his opponents.

[–] Not_mikey@slrpnk.net 1 points 6 months ago

The half the country that elected him will be, as that's the only thing this guy's offering at this point; laughing at the other half of the country you hate as they get mad at him for destroying the country.

[–] InternetUser2012@midwest.social 7 points 6 months ago

They've been a joke, ever since Reagan.

worst witchhunt in history which is saying something since the last 100 worst witchhunts in history have taken place in the last 8 years /s

[–] FunkyElectro@pawb.social 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

What kind of world do we live in where you can't even commit a felony without being accused of committing a felony? Really says a lot about our society.

[–] Fiorenzo@feddit.it 4 points 6 months ago

I red this comment whith DT voice

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

How many hours total did the jury deliberate?

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.world 9 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Someone in another comment said just under 12 hours.

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago
[–] mihies@kbin.social 1 points 6 months ago

Couldn't they do it in like 12 minutes, though?
