I’m a little anxious putting one on my car

It's not a good idea to put any sort of identity on your car since people don't generally think nice things about the drivers they see on the road with them. One of my friends refuses to put a Jesus fish bumper sticker in case she cuts someone off or something and they get mad at God.

I had one on the back of my car that was a T-Rex biting a chunk out of the ichthys symbol. Lasted a lot longer than I thought it would living in the Bible Belt before someone ripped it off. People will definitely take your car decorations personally.

This IS the way. !fuckcars

[-] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 months ago

Yes, let me bike to the grocer, and somehow carry home 100lbs+ of food and supplies on my fucking HEAD? What are you even on

[-] the_medium_kahuna@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Saddlebags and crates for bikes are common. Have you considered smaller, but more frequent, trips to the grocery store?

[-] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Not trying to be a dick; I love my bike.

But have you considered the logistics of transporting two 40-pound boxes of cat litter on a bicycle? Even one, absolutely no chance I’m dealing with that.

Also, both my partner and I absolutely hate grocery shopping. Ignoring the litter, I would absolutely not consider going more frequently.

[-] the_medium_kahuna@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Oh, I wasn’t trying to be a dick either! I’m with you on hating grocery shopping haha

I try to do as much perishable stuff at the farmers market (which is fortunately walking distance) and then do non-perishable as infrequently and in-bulk as possible by car

[-] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 months ago

Makes sense! Usually we only go to the store when we need litter, which is mad heavy. Then we’ll get sole packs of cat food (our spoiled cats eat different nice stuff.)

By that point, even both of us on bikes… it just doesn’t work. Plus we have two cars we love, we just don’t drive then much cuz we’re hermits. Bikes are for fun, cars are for obtain item!

[-] shiveyarbles@beehaw.org 2 points 11 months ago

No dummy you take more trips

[-] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 months ago

I love my bike but fuck if imma carry a single 40lb box of cat litter while biking hahaha

[-] amio@kbin.social 35 points 11 months ago

Bumper stickers are... incredibly weird to me. Why? Literally.

[-] Mugmoor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 11 months ago

Ive never seen a car sticker that wasn't stupid as hell .

[-] CriticalMiss@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

I had seen a GNU bumper sticker, even without the message they have a cool logo

[-] 01189998819991197253@infosec.pub 2 points 11 months ago

That is a rockin logo!

I have stickers from coffeeshops from my travels. I've always been against bumper stickers, until my current car. Don't know why.

[-] cwade12c@lemmy.world 31 points 11 months ago

Putting any sticker on your car is a great way to give free information out to people about yourself. Don’t give out free information to people about yourself.

[-] BraBraBra@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

You could say the same thing for literally just existing. Better kill yourself or someone might find something out about you!

I hope it's unnecessary for me to say I'm simply making a point and not ernestly telling you to kys.

[-] cwade12c@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

My point was more about blatantly advertising more personal details that somebody wouldn’t learn just by seeing the color of your tshirt.

I am into OSINT so maybe my view here is a little more paranoid or biased.

with piracy in general, you don't really want to be noticed, so... no. slap it on the back of a street sign or the front door of a cop shop.

[-] godless@latte.isnot.coffee 16 points 11 months ago

Any sticker looks stupid regardless of intention.

[-] GregorGizeh@lemmy.world 16 points 11 months ago

Car stickers are never a good idea, ever. Not only do they look ridiculous, they give random strangers access to important information about you and your life situation. Do not volunteer personal Information.

And then there is the uniquely stupid prospect of a piracy car sticker. What in the fuck gave you the idea that is somehow a good addition to your car? The activity ranges from unsavory to straight up illegal depending on where you live, why would anyone advertise they are doing that irl?

[-] Steveanonymous@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

All my komi cant communicate peepers tell them is that I’m a fucking weeb

[-] coffeebiscuit@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago

It’s dumb. It draws attention you don’t want to get.

[-] rikudou@lemmings.world 14 points 11 months ago

Well, my stance is I hate any stickers on a car.

[-] kirua@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago

Someone might damage your car bc they don’t believe it’s right and think you’re doing something illegal lmao

[-] Infiltrated_ad8271@kbin.social 7 points 11 months ago

That would be quite ironic.

[-] resurrexia@kbin.social 13 points 11 months ago

Cool if the car was downloaded too

[-] Shurimal@kbin.social 12 points 11 months ago

Maybe if it's just a jolly roger with "*ARRR" under it. Those in the know will understand, for others it's just a silly pop culture reference. And has plausible deniability ("What? I just really like Pirates of the Caribbean and Sea of Thieves!").

[-] jwagner7813@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah this is my thought as well. I see nothing wrong with mostly surface level info for bumper stickers. However, I wouldn't advertise doing anything against the law or hell, even less popular stuff then most. It unfortunately can single you out for potential vehicle damage or worse.

[-] Ugetsu@feddit.de 9 points 11 months ago

It´s just as dumb as any sort of stickers that convey your personal opinion.

Most people won´t care, very few will appreciate it but if there´s only one person that really really hates it, you might end up with a keyed car.

Perfection.

[-] Carter@feddit.uk 7 points 11 months ago

Any sticker on a car is cringe.

[-] CloverSi@lemmy.comfysnug.space 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Wow, people here really hate bumper stickers. I think of them as a fun little bit of self expression that reminds me there are other humans in the road. I really don't think the risk of getting your car keyed because of one is nearly as high as it's being made out to be, and police using a bumper sticker as any sort of evidence seems pretty unlikely too. Do whatever you're comfortable with of course, but I wouldn't be too worried.

[-] activator90@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 11 months ago

first world problems

[-] butter@midwest.social 6 points 11 months ago

Do it. Put the not-technically-piracy apps on your car. Qbittorrent, sonarr, radarr, jellyfin, etc.

[-] sounddrill@lemmy.antemeridiem.xyz 5 points 11 months ago

Don't think, just do it

[-] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Depending on where I'm the world you are, there is nothing that can be done. I at least know where I live in the US, I could put a sticker for something like l337x or Ru Tracker and the worst thing that could happen (without any links) is that someone keys off the stickers.

Though I feel like I'd be more likely to be pressured by a police officer to remove the stickers for some bullshit made-up law that those stickers are in fact illegal (despite it only being a logo/name of the website).

Also, just having a sticker might attract attention, but the people whose attention it tracks would need actual proof of anything wrong going on before they actually make a move.

[-] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

I expect that from Florida and the east/south, but I have yet to see that thing happen here on the upper west coast.

[-] chemicalprophet@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

This is the type of post someone with stickers on their car would make. Close your mouth, friend-o, you're gonna catch a fly.

[-] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I actually saw one the other day. Really wished I'd taken a photo because it was here - https://maps.app.goo.gl/KBVbJdTnX93PdXrJ7
