On the 14th of July in 1789, a crowd of nearly one thousand protesters stormed the Bastille in Paris, France, a major event in the French Revolution, commemorated annually as "Bastille Day".

In the months running up to the uprising, the people of France were facing a dire economic crisis, food shortage, and increased militarization of Paris on orders of King Louis XVI. The Bastille was an armory and prison, perceived by many as a symbol of royal authority in the city.

On the morning of July 14th, a crowd of approximately one thousand people surrounded the Bastille, calling for the surrender of the prison, the removal of its cannon, and the release of the arms and gunpowder stored there.

After negotiations stalled, the crowd surged into the courtyard of the Bastille and were fired upon by troops in the garrison. In the carnage that followed, ninety-eight protesters and one defender of the Bastille were killed.

Governor Marquis de Launay, fearing his troops could not hold out, capitulated to the crowd and opened up the Bastille doors. He was captured and dragged towards the HΓ΄tel de Ville in a storm of abuse. While the crowd debated his fate, the badly beaten Launay shouted "Enough! Let me die!", kicked a pastry cook in the groin, and was then promptly stabbed to death.

As news of the successful seizure of the Bastille spread throughout the country, revolutionaries established parallel structures of power for government and militias for civic protection, burned deeds of property, and in some cases attacked wealthy landlords.

King Louis XVI first learned of the storming the next morning through the Duke of La Rochefoucauld. "Is it a revolt?" asked the King. The duke replied: "No sire, it's not a revolt; it's a revolution."

3 years from now every random AI company is gonna have a conference call where the ceo says "we don't sell AI, we sell tools. Our assets aren't the $450 million spent on AWS compute time, it's people. Anyway we're laying off 45% of our staff."

The original tweet got deleted so I can’t share but someone said β€œwhat does a [US city] [industrial inudstry] union have to do with Palestine?” About a statement of solidarity from the union.

And Lee Carter retweeted β€œFirst of all, the Internationale will be the human race, so jot that down”

And that statement which is an IASIP reference, I think will live in my brain forever as a response to any criticism about intersectionality, solidarity or internationalism.

I had a dream that I was physically fighting a bunch of evangelicals. Like, I was in a restaurant and then started being hassled by a woman my age and someone else, which escalated into them fighting me for saying I don't believe in God. Then they got kicked out and started targeting me to attack me, so I went to their church, which also appeared to be a restaurant on the inside, and employed my most epic debate bro skills. I asked them if they would still believe in God if they weren't born and raised in a Christian environment, and I guess my brain couldn't think of anything for them to say to that because I woke up. That was kinda weird, dunno why that happened.

I don’t like summer because it’s too hot to walk to the store during the day and if I want to do it at night I have to wait until like 8pm.

going to go on a date and vibe with my situationship-person today despite things feeling a little more cool-zone and this-is-fine than average, gotta hold the ones you love close and enjoy life regardless idk what else to do shrug-outta-hecks plus it's hard to measure what's actually serious anymore, decent odds people forget about this assassination attempt within a month since life and news happen so fast in Our Times.

In other words what if we kissed in front of the cool-zone ha ha jk...unless...?

Woke up at 3am (an auspicious time) and somehow went back to sleep. Woke up to my door being knocked on by a guy looking for my neighbors unit.

He interrupted what felt like an important dream that I can't remember, which I don't usually remember my dreams thanks to thc and medication.

I'm working on a theory the guy who knocked on my door is some kind of wizard or alien, sent to disrupt me. His purple du rag and fedora are not helping the wizard angle.

Gotta touch more grass yeesh.

The calls for Biden to drop out cease and he gets the nomination. He dies the next day. Within a week, democrats make a deal with republicans to heal the country: the election is canceled and Trump is declared the winner, but he has to posthumously award Biden the medal of honor once he's officially president. During his inauguration speech, Trump pins a piece of cardboard that says "LOSER" to a memorial photo of Biden.

Honestly, I think it’s kinda cool how the people predicting the end times throughout biblical history just put names to man made horrors beyond comprehension

Extremely lame, however, that 30% of the country (hell let’s be honest it’s more like 60% because Christianity is an institution that new age atheists bend over to defend as long as god isn’t mentioned).

What we really need (we as an I) is a modern day author on par with vonnegut to show how all of this transcends absurdity

People are concerned about what the backlash/retaliation to the left will be, but it seems the guy that shot trump is actually a conservative and that seems somehow more worrisome. If like geoypers in their 20s are willing to kill anyone for any or no reason really doesn't bode well for the future.

Edit: a friend replied and we had a nice hangout, I forgive them after all.

I think it's really funny when some lib modlog action federates over to the hexbear modlog from another instance. Like this one and then you go check what the user actually said and it's this

why do libs always have to lie about basic shit anyone can look up lol

I love the idea that keepung track of Iran or North Korea's nuclear programs is done with elaborate spycraft, and 1337 hacking, and not like a rough accounting of computational power available, seismic readings, and like a dozen guys at the department of energy guessing at how developed the programs are.

I had to fill out a background check for job. I filled it out using the legit dates at my prior places of employment (as advised everywhere online). But on my resume that HR has, I lied like hell on those dates. 8 months of experience became 2 years. Will HR compare my resume to the background check? Or will the background check just say everything is verified (since they have the correct dates).
