Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

Image is of Joseph Robinette Biden, who has stepped down and will not run against Trump in the 2024 election.

In the aftermath of Trump surviving an assassination attempt, many professional opinion-havers are now talking about the scourge of "political violence" that has overtaken, or will soon overtake America, and how we must not let chaos rule. This is, of course, patently absurd. The American government and its allies have been the greatest force of political violence on the planet since the beginning of colonialism, and the foundations of the country are made of corpses. Today, America commits political violence by forcing Ukrainians into the maw of Russian artillery instead of trying to reach a peaceful settlement, which Russia has repeatedly expressed interest in and offered Ukraine relatively favourable terms. They supply Israel with endless weaponry to destroy entire cities and populations, while Biden supporters insist that somehow things could be worse than daily massacres and mass starvation.

In May 1945, French police fired on protestors, causing retaliatory attacks on French settlers, killing about a hundred. In response, the French murdered 45,000 Algerians in a little under two months, in a frenzy of political violence called the Sétif and Guelma massacre. As the massacre was being completed, the International Court of Justice was established. It goes without saying that Algeria never benefited from the ICJ, and the War of Independence from 1954 to 1962 was made inevitable. Over a million Algerians were killed before France could bear the fighting no longer and gave up, and Algeria won itself a state. Comparisons to the ongoing war of independence and genocide in Palestine are obvious.

While the means of colonial violence have evolved over the centuries, the basic structure of it has not. As in Algeria, Vietnam, and Cuba, resistance groups in and around Palestine are fighting for a world with less political violence. The American government would drown every city in the developing world in blood to prevent peace.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Senior North Korean diplomat defects to South

high-profile North Korean diplomat stationed in Cuba has defected to the South, Seoul's spy agency has confirmed to the BBC.

South Korean media reports say that the defector was a counsellor responsible for political affairs at the North Korean embassy in Cuba

His work reportedly involved stopping Havana from forging official diplomatic ties with Seoul. However, in February, the two governments did establish official relations, in what was seen as a setback for Pyongyang.

If you are ever wondering why the US puts so much money and effort into propping up comprador dictatorships in Southwest Asia (Egypt, KSA, Jordan, some of the Gulf States) or keeps others in constant states of collapse and dysfunction (Syria, Iraq, Lebanon)... just look at what Yemen is able to do. They are very poor, they have been subjected to a brutal war for a decade+, and Ansar Allah doesn't even control the whole country. And just look what they are able to do! I don't think the bombing of the oil depot was "just" about the drone strike, but rather "israel" lashing out that Ansar Allah has done so much damage to their economy as well.

If a movement like Ansar Allah were to ever overthrow the current regimes in a place like Egypt or Jordan, the Zionist entity would undoubtedly be 100% cooked.

Russia Says It May Deploy Nuclear Missiles in Response to New US Missile Deployment to Germany

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said Thursday that Moscow won’t rule out deploying nuclear missiles in response to the US planning to deploy missile systems to Germany in 2026 that were previously banned by the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

“I don’t rule anything out,” Ryabkov said when asked about the possibility of a nuclear deployment.

Ryabkov went on to reference Kaliningrad, the Russian Oblast on the Baltic Sea that’s wedged between Lithuania and Poland and separated from the rest of Russia. He said the territory “has long attracted the unhealthy attention of our opponents.”

Hinting Russia could respond to the US deployment by sending weapons to Kaliningrad, Ryabkov said, “Kaliningrad is no exception in terms of our 100 percent determination to do everything necessary to push back those who may harbor aggressive plans and who try to provoke us to take certain steps that are undesirable for anyone and are fraught with further complications.”

The poles and balts are gonna love this

Democratic sources said Biden plans to make an announcement about his political future in the coming days, shortly after the end of the Republican National Convention. Kamala Harris is expected to be the candidate's successor if Biden drops out.

Talking to strategists, the list of possible Vice Presidents on the ticket, should Kamala Harris run for president, boils down to 3 names:

  • Mark Kelly (Senator/Arizona)
  • Roy Cooper (Governor of North Carolina)
  • Andy Beshear (Governor of Kentucky)

🚨🇾🇪 Ansarallah Political Bureau member, Ali Al-Qahoum:

Yemen the Great, with its greatness, the greatness of its brave and wise leader, its generous people, national consensus, solid state, armed and security forces, its growing military capabilities and advanced industries, its continuous support and advocacy for Palestine and Gaza, and its honorable declared positions, has the upper hand and the capability to change the balance of power and achieve victory.

Here, we affirm that action is met with equivalent action, which is a fixed equation in the rules of engagement. With it, the conflict will expand, and the results will be dire for the enemies.

The actions will be notable, and its military and strategic operations will be painful, impactful, and effective. It will be an earthquake for the aggressors, and with it, "israel" will be eliminated. The response will be inevitable, strong, and crushing, and it will not be delayed. There are many surprises.

To the zionists, we say: Do not rejoice too much, for Yemen's response is coming and will be painful and agonizing. You will not escape punishment; you will regret and lament, and your cries will rise. Your choices will be either migration and return to where you came from or to stay in shelters. American and British protection will not help you, and the hand that violates Yemen's sovereignty and attacks its resources and people will be cut off.

The battle is long, and the zionists must pay a heavy price and endure the strikes. The hand is on the trigger. Yemen does have the word "overlook" in its dictionary, nor does it stand idly by in the face of any criminal aggression. Rather, it is present in the field, and its military actions are painful, notable, impactful, and strategic. The target list will be extensive, covering the entire geography of occupied Palestine.

Therefore, the zionists must understand that Yemen the Great is unlike any other. Rather, it is the breaker of enemies and the drowner of empires and the "israeli," British, and American colonial projects from the region. With it, unipolarity will fall, and "israel" will be eliminated, Allah willing.

What is coming is greater, the oppressor will face the consequences, and the future is full of surprises.

Per Al-Jazeera (live updates, so no link):

Israel’s strike Hodeidah marks ‘beginning of new stage’

Israel’s attacks on the Yemeni port of Hodeidah mark the beginning of a new stage that has the potential of spiralling out of control, military and political analyst Elijah Magnier has told Al Jazeera.

While the statement made by Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant’s indicates Israel intended its strike as a deterrent, it is unlikely it will have such an effect, Magnier said.

“Is this going to change the course of action of a non-state actor that is motivated to support the people of Gaza? Certainly not,” Magnier said. “They’ve been given a perfect reason to increase the attacks.”

The analyst added that the fact the Houthi drone that struck Tel Aviv on Friday went undetected shows that Iran has progressively been providing its allies with more sophisticated weapons and will continue to do so.

“We have not seen the end of it – far from it,” he said.

Europe eyes Sweden’s conscription model to solve troop shortage

Welcome to Tegeluddsvägen 29A, a nondescript office block on the edge of Stockholm and an emerging must-visit stop for European defense officials trying to figure out how to get more people into uniform.

This conscription testing center, along with two others in Gothenburg and Malmö, will screen 110,000 teenagers this year, call about a quarter of those for physical and mental exams and then draft the best-suited third to serve between nine and 15 months in the military — whether they want to or not.

Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson has highlighted the value of conscription in a series of recent speeches.

Germans Defense Minister Boris Pistorius visited Tegeluddsvägen a few weeks ago and departed saying he had learned lessons for his home nation.

Dutch officials have also been dispatched to Tegeluddsvägen, while a succession of former top officials in the U.K., including the ex-head of the foreign intelligence agency MI6, have highlighted what they see as the advantages of the Swedish system.

One step closer to the day when conscription vans ply the streets of european cities

IOF goons vandalizing Palestinian homes with their "art":
https://xcancel.com/ireallyhateyou/status/1813300580196245721

🧵"After a long time in Gaza, in Khan Younis... it started to get really boring. As an artist, it was natural for me to take a marker and just start drawing on the walls."

In last April Shomrim, "The Center for Media and Democracy", that does so-called investigative journalism, collaborated with popular mainstream news outlet Mako/N12 to do an article about the different graffiti writings and paintings left by Israeli soldiers on the walls of homes in the Gaza Strip.

It wasn't a critical piece, but sort of a feel-good patriotic piece, or as the writer called it, "an authentic glimpse into the state of mind of IDF soldiers active on the front".

The only (very subtle) critique in the article is regarding how little graffiti relates to the hostages, the potential damage to Israel's image in the world, and the use of soldiers as tools for spreading political messages (because as every Israeli "knows" - the army is "above politics").

The most nauseating part was the story of a soldier named Ram, whose quote is at the beginning of this tweet, and his so-called "artwork" (a wall defaced at the home of displaced or murdered Palestinians) is attached to this tweet.

In the following tweets are a few excerpts from the article regarding this artistic soul taking part in a genocide.
