A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

Third dial on the left panel under the screen. Pull it up, rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise, then push it back in.

It works, trust me.

[–] Dipbeneaththelasers 17 points 4 months ago

Worked for me. Highly recommend.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 months ago

don't listen to him this just deletes system32

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 48 points 4 months ago (2 children)

That's a massive MFD. Now to install flight simulator on it so you can fly while you fly.

[–] Hupf@feddit.de 16 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Better install DCS and map the controls to the ones in the cockpit

[–] neidu2@feddit.nl 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If you install a flight sim in the glass cockpit, and you link it to the real controls, you could end up with the same view on the screen as through the canopy.

Add some drift correction where the plane on screen is automatically teleported/tilted according to GNSS and gyros, and you can fly your f35 in 3rd person view.

Needs multiplayer support for flying in formations.

[–] youngalfred@lemm.ee 36 points 4 months ago

Have you tried scanning the QR code?

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 28 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Try doing a barrel roll while holding the power button. Or maybe it was the konami code on the flight stick...

[–] xan1242@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 4 months ago

Konami code will summon an option and basically turn the craft into Gradius.

Highly recommended.

[–] And009@lemmynsfw.com 27 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Have you tried restarting the device?

Turn off the HUD & engines, then reboot

Press Right, Left, Left, Right, Up, Down, Down, Right. for 1 extra life.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

No, that’s how you lose one life.

[–] SomeAmateur@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Up, Down, Left, Right, L Yaw, R Yaw, Eject. Gets you out of cockpit view and into spectator mode

[–] MonkderDritte@feddit.de 20 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Jetplanes run on Windows. 🤦

Btw, how bad is security in jetplanes generally?

[–] SmoothIsFast@lemmy.world 41 points 4 months ago (1 children)

What do you think this is? War thunder forums?

[–] thesporkeffect@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

It was worth a shot

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 23 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (3 children)

how bad is security in jet planes generally

not bad at all, tbh. The insecure bits are secured by people with guns.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

But the guys with guns LOVE picking up porn usbs

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

there are a lot of really really good tools to mitigate this threat

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Like more people with guns?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Yeah but the other people with guns are always trying to crash your system.

[–] MonkderDritte@feddit.de 3 points 4 months ago

IT security?

[–] FiniteBanjo 19 points 4 months ago

Sorry pal, but the CrowdStrike causes a boot loop and safe mode won't help. What's worse is the F-35 Lightning II has all the components operated by electronic hydraulics (EHAS) and cannot be overridden unless you're an electrician and suddenly find a way to make a lot of leg room.

Thank you for your sacrifice.

[–] Thann@lemmy.ml 18 points 4 months ago

Pull your Fedora CD out of your survival pouch, and use a paperclip to open the CD tray

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Just wait until it reboots a few times, then it allows you to select safe mode.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 4 months ago

With any luck, each reboot takes no more than a minute or so, assuming 15 reboots and a starting elevation of 40,000 feet.

[–] reddit_sux@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago

I thought it must be running windows xp still. Nice to see modern BSOD.

[–] zerosignal@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago

The X-32 ran Linux, if the DOD woulda chose that, we wouldn't be in this situation smh my damn head.

[–] SteveTech@programming.dev 13 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Sigh...

Wait for it to reboot 3 times and automatically enter recovery, Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt, del C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike\C-00000291*.sys

Is the fastest way to do this assuming no bitlocker. Also C: sometimes isn't mounted at C:, you might have to try all the letters between C: and X:, or just boot into safe mode.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 months ago

assuming no bitlocker

Lol, hope dude's got the encryption keys up there in the cockpit with him

There's a power button under the nose, you need to hald that down for 5 seconds

[–] Rekonok@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

When you have the live USB but do not remember how to reach BIOS and start trying randoms imputs

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

I always have to do a search. Why can’t we just standardize on something? Even from the same manufacturer different models use different F-keys. It’s ridiculous.

[–] badbytes@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Have you tried installing Crowdstrike?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

IDF installs that.

You have to do a VFR takeoff/landing cycle up to 15 times, and then it should resolve itself

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 months ago

You know, back in the 90s people would joke that instead of Microsoft making Flight Simulator more like flying a real plane, they would work to make flying a plane more like playing Flight Simulator.

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 months ago

You know, this was a critical plot point of multiple sci-fi media franchises.

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 3 points 4 months ago

Did you not safely eject??

[–] Fenrisulfir@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago

You’ll have to shut it down and bump start it to boot from the UEFI
