Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

Image is of a colectivo: an armed group, usually operating in impoverished areas, which act to support and defend the socialist government of Venezuela. They are often derided as vigilante terrorist groups which prop up the government, because cops are only bad when they are socialist and not murdering minorities, I suppose.

Maduro's party, the PSUV, has won the election after a staggering amount of propaganda by the opposition, who said their polls suggested they were going to win and that Maduro's loss was inevitable. The reaction across Latin America is what one would expect. Left-leaning leaders are generally respecting the results and congratulating Maduro, while those on the right and/or are US puppets (such as in semirecently-couped Peru) are calling for recounts, or even that the election was illegitimate. The US itself is also unhappy about the results. We shall soon see if their unhappiness boils over into yet another coup attempt.

Personally, I think they should have ran Guaido again.

Thank you to @Redcuban1959@hexbear.net for the election coverage here, and everything else they do in the news megathread.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Elon Musk himself retweets a video purporting to show protestors tearing down a statue of President Hugo Chavez today. But this video is from 2017

Most of the Statue videos are either from 2013 or 2017. The actual new videos have much high quality footage. Mostly around Caracas and some small cities.

Ok but can we talk about how insane Pan Zhanle is?

Dude breaks his own 100m world record and gaps the rest of the field by a bodylength... Then a few days later, takes the 4x100m home by making up a 2m gap and then some... And in the process, does the whole leg in sub-46 seconds.

The guy is straight up 2-3% faster than everyone else. It's insane.

As for complaints about the pool being slow? Americans set new world records for the 1500m free and women's 4x100 medley, so that argument doesn't work anymore. Plus, the fastest recent 50m free is a 21.04, so it's not like it's impossible for someone to swim a sub-46 100m.

At this point the US should really consider planting some drugs on him because otherwise they're so fucked... This is as Chinese athletes are being tested as much as 7 times a day by WADA.

would the best plan for Iran and Hezbollah be not retaliating? Although Israel definitely deserves to be wiped off the face of existence im worried about its genocidal sugar daddy Uncle Sam deciding we should nuke them.

If I was Maduro, saw flagging support and decided to steal the election I'd claim to have something like a 40 point difference against my rivals. But woops the opposition are the ones doing that.

Let's hope the next few years are transformative enough for the global economy where Venezuela can see some positive results. Because, really, let's face it this election was totally winnable for the opposition if they were just normal all liberals. Instead they chose to call for their country to be invaded and presented an economic plan of 'fear and starvation in the name of privatization'. Had they been a late 90s Brazilian neoliberal they'd have won. But no they couldn't control themselves for more than a second.

As for China @shipwreck@hexbear.net

China for the last 20 years at least, has by far the most competent political leadership on the planet.

You think they don't know what's going on?

China has been balancing its' trade towards more domestic consumption since the later Hu Jintao period.

But they are not naive, they know that an economy heavily based on domestic consumption implies a bunch of things.

It implies running on deficits. It implies opening up capital flow. It implies losing control over the yuan. It implies giving the power to the financiers.

They are not gonna do that, despite what liberal academics inside China say. They are not gonna turn China into USA.

Instead the smartest politicians on the planet, they are gonna do the smart thing.

They are gonna turn that energy deficit into energy surplus, they are gonna invest in advance agriculture so they are not dependent to anyone for food, they are gonna turn the 12% gross margin into 20-25%+, they are gonna use that surplus value to build more sustainable infrastructure and improve steadily the QoL of their citizens without sacrificing their competitive edge.

They gonna do all this until they develop their productive force so far that they can out-compete any of the regressive capitalist countries while at the same time provide better standard of living for their people. Then the realm of freedom (as Marx put it) is finally on the horizon. Then we win.

Ben Norton (Jul 30, 2024 · 1:18 PM UTC)

The fake news on Venezuela is hilariously ridiculous.

This is Colombia's former vice president and foreign minister, in the previous far-right regime of Iván Duque.

Her supposed "proof" that the Venezuelan opposition won the election is a WhatsApp message with made-up data 😂

The fascists can't keep their vote total straight. It's 80% here, 69% there, etc... They might as well say that they won all the votes.

⭕️ Ezzat Al-Rishq Member of the Political Bureau of Hamas Movement

Confirming or denying the martyrdom of any of the al-Qassam commanders is the business of the al-Qassam Brigades' commandership and the movement's leadership.

Unless either of them announces it, no news published in the media or by any other parties can be confirmed.

Not sure if this has been posted, but "after the Gaza War" plans that US, Israel, and Gulf Arab states agreed on includes installing CIA asset Mohammed Dahlan into power. They also want him replacing Mahmoud Abbas.

I wonder if this is why Turkey is getting into beef with Israel now, because this guy was also behind the Gulen coup attempt. Either way I think the least they can do is send some Bayraktars the Lebanese way.

https://anfenglishmobile.com/kurdistan/gerila-tv-releases-one-hour-film-either-you-will-go-or-you-will-die-74512

The PKK released over 1 hour of footage recently of their operations from the last year or so, including the helmêt (hêlmet, or helmet? IDK) operation in which a fortified position of the Turkish army was completely overran.

An interesting things to note is the technology the PKK has gotten fairly recently. They have drones, IR night vision thingymajiggs, and more modern rifles instead of ancient surplus AKs. Yes they were capable of shooting down helicopters in the past, but to me it nevertheless looks like they have drastically increased their technological capacity.

Also mountainous combat looks like hell on earth. I have no idea how they do it.

Protests seemed to have been mostly peaceful in Venezuela today, also I didn't see any protests around Caracas. Seems like the coup failed really hard. Now the diplomatic battle between US and Venezuela begins, we will see if Colombia, Brazil and Mexico can help Venezuela with this.

President Maduro offers statements from the Supreme Court of Justice after presenting an appeal for protection in the Electoral Chamber. “I have brought a contentious electoral appeal, so that the electoral room of the Supreme Court dedicates itself to resolving this attack against the electoral process, this coup attempt and clarify everything that needs to be clarified and summon all the candidate institutions and parties”

“Let them certify all the results, making a technical assessment of the results. I have told the electoral room, I am willing to be summoned, interrogated, investigated by the electoral room, as the winning electoral candidate of the elections. “I stand before justice”

"The GPP (Maduro's Coalition) is ready to present 100 percent of the electoral minutes (That they were given, it was given to all the other parties too) and I hope that the room does the same with all the candidates.”

Maduro will give another interview at the Presidential Palace later on today.

Today's session at the Venezuelan Supreme Court is over, with the body's electoral branch stating that the CNE, as well as all candidates and parties involved in the vote, should be ready to submit "relevant material" as required. There was no timeline established

The opposition candidates, w/ the exception of Edmundo González who did not show up, all emphasized the need for the CNE to release the detailed results as soon as possible. Enrique Márquez and Antonio Ecarri took aim at what they described as a less-than-clear judicial procedure

For his part, Maduro criticized González for not appearing at the Supreme Court session, accusing him of wanting to take power by force. He again emphasized the Socialist Party's availability to present the voting center totals in its possession.

The governments of Brazil, Colombia & Mexico released a statement calling for Venzuelan sovreignty to be respected, and for the opposition to stop their violence. Today, Mexican leader Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the OAS for its intervention in Venezuel

Clashes between opposition protesters and security forces around El Rosal in East Caracas. The National Guard set up a picket line to stop the march from heading westward. Super tense situation following the CNE proclaiming Maduro's electoral victory earlier today

Not many protest around downtown Caracas. It's raining in Sucre, so there aren't that many people there too and it seem peaceful in Sucre.

MintPress News (Jul 30, 2024 · 1:53 PM UTC)

MintPress journalist and senior staff writer Alan McLeod is stuck in a hotel in Caracas, along with hundreds of international election observers and journalists, as a US backed far right mob backed by opposition figure Edmundo Gonzalez block roads and attempt a violent coup against Maduro.

Opposition mobs have blocked buses of international election observers and journalists from going to the airport and have rerouted them.

You really must love democracy if you're attacking election observers. /s
