1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.

  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Is this the tiling manager people talk about all the time?

Is this the tiling manager people talk about all the time?

Ye, Microsoft's Head of Monetization, Nolan Sorrento, calls it "Pure O2."

    [–] ad_on_is@lemm.ee 15 points 3 months ago

    It's called "adsomeWm"... highly un-customizinle.

    [–] FQQD@lemmy.ohaa.xyz 11 points 3 months ago

Bold of you to assume you still get a desktop in between all the ads.

    [–] tpihkal@lemmy.world 41 points 3 months ago

It should be off in a corner or something. Not front and center where it's blocking the main ad.

    [–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 28 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Yeah, those ads are way to easy to ignore. Hopefully the working space randomly shifts tiles so your attention shifts periodically to the ads!

    [–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago (2 children)

And you get jingles every few minutes that you can't turn down or mute.

    [–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Makes you sing and dance jingle into webcam.

    [–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (1 children)

If you don't sing enthusiastically enough, your files are deleted.

Yeah, as if the desktop was the product

    [–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

If you use Windows, you are the product.

    [–] slax@hometech.social 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

@Diplomjodler3 @Ophioparma finished building my PC proceeded with installing Windows 11. Realized my failure. Installed PopOS. Life is so much better now.

This is less intrusive than current web ads. The entire center of the screen is ad-free, no pop-ups, no banners that grey out the rest of the screen, no paywall...

    [–] Rolando@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago

In this image you could just put cardboard over all the ads to have an ad-free experience.

You are an unfit mother. Your children will be placed into the custody of Carl's Jr.

    [–] Ophioparma@feddit.org 42 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Quite optimistic view. Do you think they will be so nice and give you a completely unobstructed working area? I am pretty sure that contradicts every sane ad strategy. Where is the "Watch one minute of ads before we can start your application" window in the center? Where are the 5 identical buttons of which only one will get you to file explorer, the other ones lead to File Explorer Plus only for 5,99$ per week?

Current and future Linux experience: A functional and well engineered system, built by its users, for its users, and constantly improved based on feedback from the community. Oh and if you don’t like you can just try a different one for free and see if you like that one better.

I still use my bought in 2012 Photoshop CS 6, almost daily, no plans to upgrade. If i need to keep one of my PCs with windows, i won't mind sticking to a old version for the long run

    [–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 months ago

    Cs6 was peak PS!

GIMPs biggest upgrade in like a decade should be coming out this year, you'll have to check it out and see if it meets your needs when it does.

This copy/paste operation brought to you by Geico. Watch this 30 second ad to unlock your clipboard.

    Don't give them ideas!

    [–] Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's any future app. And the kick in the nards is that the developer who allow it earn like $2 a day if lucky. So we all get burned on the ad hellscape having hours of time wasted for $2

    [–] Zetta@mander.xyz 9 points 3 months ago

Not open source apps, glad I've pivoted to almost entirely open source software. SaaS is cancer.

Can we somehow integrate ads into the display frame? Looks like dead and unused area to me.

    [–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.melroy.org 9 points 3 months ago

And the decades long trend of minimizing screen bezel size suddenly reverses course.
