I still chuckle every time I hear the Wilhelm scream.

Once I knew to listen for it, I find it jarring and cringeworthy tbh. Really takes me out of a movie

Buzz Lightyear makes that sound when he’s knocked out of Andy’s window.

I think a Nazi or two also scream Wilhelm-like when Indiana Jones punches them off a car.

In TLOTR: The Two Towers, some dude is falling at Helm’s Deep and does a Wilhelm. I think it’s after a scary flying beast that’s naughty picks him up and drops him from really high up.

In Spidey Into the Spiderverse, Spidey punches a crook and the crook Wilhelms about the audacity to be hit by Spidey.

When Luke Skywalker gets his hand chopped off by a sharp light blade that’s burning hot and stuff, he screams Mark Hamilly, and not Wilhelmly. Thank you, Luke.

Man, a comic book speech bubble in a Spiderverse movie that just says "Wilhelm Scream" would be hilarious

This comment could've kept going for another thousand paragraphs.

[–] PM_Your_Nudes_Please@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Same. It breaks the immersion and reminds people that they’re watching a movie.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

They used it perfectly in The Hangover. I never listen for it, but they made it painfully obvious and got a surprised chuckle out of me.

That one rusty door opening sound.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Noooo! Those are the real sounds of Aquaman swimming through the ocean at 90 mph!

[–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Foley artistry is really cool to learn about

[–] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

It was my dream job, when it was actually a guy making sounds. Now it's all digital and on a computer. That's no fun. I wanna smash fruit with weapons and make weird noises for movies

Good ol' General Series 6000

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Or Turbosquid.

Wilhelm intensifies

[–] hydroptic@sopuli.xyz 78 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I swear some comic movie fans are the stupidest people alive

I swear some ~~comic movie~~ fans are the stupidest people alive

[–] hydroptic@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 month ago

Touché, seems like every fandom has its mouth breathers.

Well, except for Our Flag Means Death fans at least as far as the folks I've interacted with. Figures that a queer pirate rom-com would generally have a pretty wholesome fandom (although there's probably shitty OMFD fans too, heh)

I mean I still find it funny, I find it entertaining when it's found out that an extremely high cost production used something that I have access to

[–] And009@reddthat.com 42 points 1 month ago

It's more common than you think

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 54 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Just a crumb of media literacy for an old seppo?

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He is responsible for making me the way I am…

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

A clever folk hero, right?

Right?

[–] Commiunism@lemmy.wtf 42 points 1 month ago (2 children)

If a movie isn't brave enough to put their main actor into deep water with no breathing equipment with a ton of sharks just for the poster picture, then I'm not watching it

[–] wafflez@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Finally, someone said it

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

The movie would have made more money if someone was mauled by a shark and it led to a boycott

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 40 points 1 month ago (2 children)

That last Aquaman movie is genuinely one of the worst things I have ever watched.

I stole it and I still wanted a refund.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

That reminds me of the time Beavis and Butt-Head tried to get free popcorn and otherwise annoy girls during a Twilight movie, got thrown out, and demanded a refund after sneaking in.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

I think I made it halfway through. On 4 tries.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I thought at first they had left the watermark in (no pun intended). That would've been a big fuckup.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago
[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 1 month ago

Are you saying that mofo can't breathe under water? Cause if so, I want my money back.

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

To be fair I would have expected a tiny bit more effort.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

For the poster? Nah. They're right, that's what stock photos are for. What, you want them to whip up a unique CGI model for no discernable improvement in quality in a still picture?

[–] Chadus_Maximus@lemm.ee 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No. I want them to photograph real sharks. No CGI.

[–] MacStache@programming.dev 19 points 1 month ago

Good news! Someone already did and is selling that photo in stock photo services!
