"right wing candidate gives speech to union, goes about as expected"

[–] Gerudo@lemm.ee 53 points 2 months ago (3 children)

If there is anyone on the planet who gets virtually universal respect, it's fire fighters. To get booed by them is just another example of how much of a piece of shit you are. Like, HUGE turd.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

No songs about, "Fuck the firemen, comin' straight from the underground..."

[–] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Except they get no respect from the GOP. Look at all the FDNY firefighters that have chronic health issues from working during 9-11 and the GOP refuses to pay for health care. Makes sense they'd get booed.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

I never heard of a song called "Fuck the Fire Department".

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 32 points 2 months ago (2 children)

If you like Firefighters your a SOCIALIST LIBTARD WHO HATES AMERICA!

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The right wing in my mom’s town passed a measure to close one of the fire stations (to lower taxes).

Turns out if the fire response times go above a certain threshold, your homeowners insurance goes up by a lot more than the tax cut (I think it saved a couple hundred dollars a year, and added a couple hundred dollars a month to most home insurance in 1/3 of the town).

Once 1/3 of the town realized it, the measures was repealed before the shutdown could happen.

People so stupid it hurts.

“Sounds like we got some fans and some haters. That's okay,” Vance, who’s been dubbed the “negative rizz” candidate by social media users, said.

Walz, a former union member, championed his and Harris’ pro-labor agenda over that of Trump, who said in a conversation with Elon Musk earlier this month that he would fire federal striking workers, prompting the UAW to file NLRB charges against the duo.

The group, which endorsed Joe Biden in 2020, has yet to make an endorsement, though the Harris campaign has scooped up the support of several of the largest labor groups in the country.

[–] djsoren19@yiffit.net 32 points 2 months ago (6 children)

Negative rizz is such a fucking insane thing to see in the news. Imagine showing that to someone 20 years ago.

[–] ImplyingImplications@lemmy.ca 31 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"Vance accused of taking an L. He called cap but was quickly ratio'd"

[–] hddsx@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago (3 children)

What does it mean to be ratiod?

[–] Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Be called out for saying something controversial best I can tell, the term I think originated on Twitter to refer to a comment getting a lot more retweets than likes.

[–] prayer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

When you make a bold statement but don't get the support from followers that you expected, instead receiving overwhelming negative responses.

[–] crawancon@lemm.ee 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

fr fr bet no cap fam

also skibidi toilet

[–] Sc00ter@lemm.ee 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Rizz wasn't even a thing 20 years ago. Hell I can't imagine it 5 years ago

[–] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

As an RPG player that heard Rizz for the first time a while back it kinda just clicked instantly. Im not sure how unique that is

[–] mriormro@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You see the word 'slammed' all of the time currently. This is no different; you're (we're) just old.

[–] djsoren19@yiffit.net 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh no I'm young, I'm just self aware enough to realize that the things I say are pretty weird. Zoomer culture is insane and beautiful and horrible.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Same as it ever was.

Go back and read the slang of days gone by. It's quite funny, actually.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I have no idea what it means. I'm 41 and basically since 2016 the political landscape to me has been nothing but a bunch of rich people telling me they are gonna make things better. No explanation on how it with what. No hard-line messages on topical issues. Just fuckin garbage sound bites and massively overblown/out of context/straight up fabricated quotes.

I didn't get spammed with text messages for the last 6 months telling me all the policy that were gonna get. I didn't get text messages asking what i thought of [insert candidates/party name] actions on whatever. I got 6 months of spam begging for donations. That's it. My preferred party has done nothing but beg me for money via SMS like some desperate pampered chef consultant.

[–] VirtualOdour@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

It's just short for charisma, it's nothing new.

I couldn't agree more about the emails though, I paid to join labour here in the uk when they had a leader who seemed to care but all I got for it was endless emails begging for money - I tried to join all the things that said 'have your say' or 'be heard' but none even pretended to be interested or had any form of way for me to give input. The only option I actually found was I could get tickets to a meeting where theoretically at the end I might get a chance to ask a question from the audience...

It really made me aware that they don't actually want to know what people think, either because they have no respect for us or because they know full well that people want things they have no intention of delivering.

We need to move towards having actual digital town squares where people can voice their opinions, personally I want to be able to register my approval or disapproval of policy and politicians changing it if my mind changes - I'm fed up of just being told 'we assume people want this so you'll have to put up with it' or even worse 'we've decided you should want this so you're going to enjoy it!'

[–] toothpaste_sandwich@feddit.nl 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I'm out of the loop, what's rizz?

[–] candybrie@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago
[–] JWBananas@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Rizz is to charisma as vibes is to vibrations.

[–] toothpaste_sandwich@feddit.nl 0 points 2 months ago
[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago

Yeah, they hate you. That's why they're booing. Maybe consider asking why they hate you and listening to the answer.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

It isn't "hating" so much as "understanding who he is as a person"

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Boo... Clap... Just whatever makes sense.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

“Haters”

What people who have legit criticisms can be labeled.

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 1 points 2 months ago

like he's some fuckin music artist and people don't like his sound or something

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

who, by comparison, warmly embraced Walz on Wednesday

This seems like weasel words. Did the firefighters not actually warmly embrace Walz but only treated him better than Vance?

The group, which endorsed Joe Biden in 2020, has yet to make an endorsement, though the Harris campaign has scooped up the support of several of the largest labor groups in the country.

Nothing in the article shows their response to Walz other than that. More stellar "journalism"...

[–] EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (10 children)

Tim Walz was greeted by applause and no boos. Calling his response “Warm” in comparison to Vance’s is perfectly accurate and more than adequate journalism.

Hard not to hate powermad cretins

[–] Moops@lemmy.world -4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I hate ~~Walz~~ Vance and love that he got boo'd. That said, I don't understand why everyone is making such a big deal of him calling them "haters". That's literally what that word means. I'm a ~~Walz~~ Vance hater. Many of you are haters. It's a description not a slur.

Edit: Yeah I fucked this one up royally, didn't I lol? Sorry folks.

[–] EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Walz wasn’t boo’d. JD Vance was

[–] Moops@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Aww shit. Thanks lol.
