Gamers when the molehill they made a mountain out of gets turned into an actual mountain

This reminds me of the ultra edgy survival vaguely-zombie-themed game "Rust" which had white supremacist gangs and the like which took a massive beating when a new patch of the game made people's skin colors and other attributes based on a procedurally generated seed that was unique to each Steam account.

When I played GTA Online I made a character sort of loosely based on Omar Little from the wire, I got called the n-word so often on mic it was surreal (I’m white IRL).

"other attributes" ie. dick and boob size btw

tfw you are trying to do a survival power fantasy and your character penis is as small as your real one powercry-2

That game was so clownishly edgy that it had some rather direct parallels to the notorious tabletop game F.A.T.A.L.

oh my god you are taking me back 15 years ago when i first learned about F.A.T.A.L.

guy spent more time writing about

CW: disgustingvagina elasticity coefficient and race theory

than actual game mechanics

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 16 points 12 hours ago

The guy was That Guy who was all like "How come elves who can live thousands of years have the same level of experience as humans whose bodies are only able for about 50 years", or "how come everyone is an adventurer", or "how is it that there's almost no racism in a world based on medieval Europe", and then made an age-based level system, a job system where 95% of them are pointless, and a racism system where there's only three races that are not "kill anyone else on sight" in the entire game, without any thought as to how this would work as a game.

it's so bad that even the average early 2000s edgy forum dwellers found it abhorrent

Dare ye enter his magical realm? awooga libertarian-alert hypersus hitler-detector

[–] gramxi@hexbear.net 29 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

The first time I loaded up that game a child yelled slurs at me and demanded that I give him my starting rock

[–] Sausage@hexbear.net 12 points 11 hours ago

Just another day playing online games

[–] whogivesashit@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Rust is great. Still a fair amount of nazis. Just makes it easier to prioritize bases to destroy. 14th most played game on steam right now. What was edgy about it? Always seemed pretty standard to me.

[–] Latework@hexbear.net 10 points 10 hours ago

I think it was mainly the player base that was the edgiest part of it.

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 29 points 12 hours ago

I wish that was real

[–] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 36 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

It's kinda funny that the reactionary gamers that cry about "fookin pronouns" lmao and so on mainly play cod or some other shit live service game.

[–] a_little_red_rat@hexbear.net 5 points 9 hours ago

cod is woke though (you can have a rainbow gamer tag while shooting people)

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 8 points 10 hours ago

Strong, white, and aryan men that kill scary browns.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 48 points 14 hours ago

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is such a clunky name

Why is there a “The” in the middle? It doesn’t sound right. Dragon Age: Veilguard is significantly better and that’s without even looking at other name options.

[–] LocalOaf@hexbear.net 15 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Idk shit about Dragon Age, are there multiple veilguards and you're like, the veilguard?

[–] Philosoraptor@hexbear.net 18 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I think it's the group name. It's "the veilguard" in the same sense as "the Marx brothers" or "the Avengers."

[–] a_little_red_rat@hexbear.net 3 points 9 hours ago

Dragon Age: Marx Brothers still sounds better than Dragon Age: The Marx Brothers

what sounds even better is Dragon Age: Marx and Engels (the dragon is capitalism you have to slay or something, idk I've never played Dragon Age)

[–] bunnygirl@hexbear.net 14 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

tbf I haven't looked at the new lore yet but even still in the last game you were the Inquisition and it's still only called Dragon Age: Inquisition

to be even more fair it's clunky but the dumbest name will always belong to DA2 for having a number instead of a subtitle

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 10 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

It actually was going to have just a subtitle, but the suits decided that people wouldn't know its a sequel if it isn't number 2.

[–] bunnygirl@hexbear.net 3 points 12 hours ago

yeee, I always rename my shortcuts and install the mod that adds the old Exodus title art back to the title screen/main menu haha

[–] Utter_Karate@hexbear.net 23 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Write into the user agreement that everyone scrolls past that the user agrees to take hormones and to put their heart and soul into fully transitioning as soon as possible and then pour the rest of your resources into your legal department to make the gamers understand that they signed a legally binding contract and are going to have to live up to their promise if they ever want to be seen as adults.

[–] EelBolshevikism@hexbear.net 11 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

the precedent would be horrific when used for other non-transitioning things, unfortunately

I mean forcing someone to transition in the first place is horrific too

I'm over reading this joke... limmy-awake

Based

[–] Utter_Karate@hexbear.net 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

You are correct of course, but if someone sat us down and explained to us what we had actually agreed to after we clicked past one of those user agreements I'm pretty sure it would be very different from a forced transition but not all that much better morally.

[–] EelBolshevikism@hexbear.net 5 points 11 hours ago

Yeah it's ALREADY horrific so
