North Korea has said it had found the remnants of a South Korean military drone and that any further "violation" of its territory would result in a "declaration of war."

Tensions between the two sides of the peninsula have escalated since May when the North began flying balloons carrying garbage across the border to the South, prompting Seoul to respond by restarting loudspeaker propaganda broadcasts.

This week, North Korea accused South Korea of flying drones over Pyongyang on three occasions this month and threatened to respond with force if it happened again.

Do they not know they're already at war? Can you declare double war or something?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 46 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Look, they're out of missiles to shoot into the ocean and they blew up all the roads between them and the South. They've got to do something to get attention.

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 20 points 3 weeks ago

Look, everyone knows you blow up all the roads into your enemies territory, then you declare war and invade.

It adds a difficulty modifier to your XP bonus pool.

After each ten war declaration punches, you get a free frozen yogurt.

"Alright, that's it! It's super-duper double-dog war times infinity, no backsies!"

[–] bamboo@lemm.ee 17 points 3 weeks ago

Technically I think North Korea is at war with the US, not South Korea. To declare war against South Korea would imply they believe there is a legitimate government to declare war against, whereas I believe they just view it as an American occupation.

Also wouldn’t be surprised if a standard DGI drone would be perceived as military grade compared to their equipment.

Right? The one started in 1950 ended with a ceasefire but there was never a treaty ending the hostilities.
I guess they mean ending the ceasefire and a return to active wartime hostilities but the way they say it is certainly funny.

War after sending troops to die in Ukraine and after selling their barely working ammunition to Russia. Yeah dude, sure. Whatever.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 43 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Everyone knows you send your special forces thousands of miles away when you’re ready to declare a border war

[–] BatrickPateman@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago

Depends on the exact meaning of "special" in this case, I would say.

[–] YippieKyeAy@lemmy.world 51 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Didn’t they just blow up some railways on their side that would help get supply’s and troops to their border? Good timing

[–] ddplf@szmer.info 10 points 3 weeks ago

Ah, you see, we received intel from China that the South's first order of business when they invade us is to destroy these railways. Now we, as to be one step ahead as always, decided to take preliminary actions. This is how you disrupt enemy planning, watch and learn you people.

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That was a retaliation for the alleged drone.

This article is old news.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Drones famously require roads to travel. This is a real blow for the south.

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Some articles claimed it was mostly meant symbolic.

Did Russia promise to back them on this thing if they send people in the ~~meat grinder~~ small military operation against Ukraine?

Or is it just that time of the month again?

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 weeks ago

Under the Russian agreement, North Korea will send 10,000 troops to North Korea and supply ammunition to itself.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] miseducator@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

In Best Korea, it is whatever day Dear Supreme Leader says it is. Reality is for westerners.

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

you made me scared

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago

They'd have to declare peace first. They've got an armistice but the war is still technically active. Anyway they should focus on how many of their people are going to die in the near future when they find out how much experience the Ukrainian military has which they do not.

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Can someone explain to that lard bucket, that he is at war with South Korea already?

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

DOUBLE WAR!

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I was under the impression war was never officially called off there and so while no fighting is happening the war is still ongoing. If so would this be like double war? Maybe they have been under double secret war for awhile and it only is just coming to light like after otter had sex with wormers wife.

[–] ashar@infosec.pub 1 points 3 weeks ago

No, it would be war squared.

Or maybe war(war());

…they’re technically still at war… so… 🙄

[–] Bluetreefrog@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

In Perun's latest vid, he mentions that SK have a publicly stated plan to take out NK 'top leadership' in the event of war.

[–] HorseRabbit@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 3 weeks ago

The amount of fart sniffing in this thread is baffling. Like 20 people all saying "umm actually they're still technically at war" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
