Where the hell do I get this, I'm Indian

This looks amazing. I've been looking for restaurants that have these but am coming up short. Some places have pictures of them but nothing on current menus. Hoping I find somewhere. (US, Seattle area)

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

I've never seen them in an Indian restaurant. Mom makes them very well. Sorry!

[–] Botzo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I need this in my life.

[–] Kernal64@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 weeks ago

I had to look up what this actually is and it sounds pretty damn good!

[–] stinky@redlemmy.com 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Those look amazing did you make them

[–] solidgrue@lemmy.world 36 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

In fact, yes.

I forget exactly how, but basically roll out some uncased sausage into a thin sheet which you divide and use to wrap some peeled soft boiled eggs. Then the wrapped eggs undergo a traditional flour-egg-crumb dredge before a quick deep-fry in 365°F neutral oil to a desirable shade of brown.

From the pic, I'll wager I cut in some Parmesan cheese (green can) and corn meal into the dredge. Probably also some salt, pepper, and herbs.

There are some good online recipes. I haven't published one, myself, but I should.

If you like slightly runny yolks, cut back boil time like a minute then refrigerate them for a couple hours before you deep fry.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

I love that you said, green can, and that I know exactly which store sells that.

[–] Botzo@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You've had two other replies to this comment from folks with "maggoty" in (or entirely) their username.

I'm sure there's nothing to that, but I found it surprising.

We all go to a lot of the same parties.

[–] stinky@redlemmy.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

You don't remember making them? What were you drinking lol

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

My issue with foods like these is that the eggs get overcooked and the sulfur ring forms around the yolk, you probably want to cook the eggs to be more runny so it doesnt overcook while you cook the outer layer

[–] kogasa@programming.dev 3 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, the egg needs to be barely cooked before battering and frying, which makes it really annoying to shell + batter + fry them

[–] CaptnNMorgan@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The yolk is waaay too hard

[–] FatTony@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago

They harder they are, the better they fit.

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

[–] urquell@lemm.ee 3 points 3 weeks ago

Ah! Interessant

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 3 weeks ago

tering lekker. Gewoon op de grote markt bij "De Hoek" uit de muur halen, dat is de echte Groningen ervaring

[–] Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 9 points 3 weeks ago

I made these with quail's eggs once, they're a right fucking about but well worth it

I had fried eggs for breakfast this morning. They were delicious. I normally have porridge.

[–] DogWater@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

I love scotch eggs

I always get these at the Renaissance faire

They’re amazing with spicy mustard

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Try making them with a slightly less than medium boiled egg next time.

[–] MrGooglyPants@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

No thanks I like my hard boiled eggs.

[–] 96VXb9ktTjFnRi@feddit.nl 1 points 3 weeks ago

Looks like an eierbal.
