Saw someone claim Xi's net worth is like 1.2 billion dollars. No one idea where they got this, but i seriously doubt it's true

As PolandIsAStateOfMind said. Its the same reason why they said Stalin was one of history's most richest men even though he died with very little to his name. You take the total estimated material wealth of the communist country they rule then say that's how much they're worth. A completely fabricated and fictitious method of measuring personal wealth, something capitalist worms are good at.

If you apply this logic to capitalist nations then Joe Biden is on Mars compared to Xi.

It's the super old western propaganda method claiming that socialist leaders actually own things they use because of their office, or that they are some kind of idealised divine pharaohs with entire state being their property. Numbers are usually entirely asspulled. It's aimed at clueless westolefto in order to make them hate AES states and arrive at the desired safety valve position of "Neither Washington nor (insert relevant AES state), but Washington".

"Neither Washington nor (insert relevant AES state), but Washington"

I really like what you added on the end there, I may have to borrow this.

This kind of westolefto centrism "both sides bad" nearly always inevitably arrive at the conclusion that western imperialism and their puppets are lesser evil.

I'd like to say "Neither Washington nor " is the same sentiment that zionists have when they boo the Likud party: they just believe they can do the empire's job far better.

It's also the same people who have no idea how to do the empire's job and boils down to committing great acts of violence but with finesse they determined retrospectively. You see this with the Pro-Ukraine westerners and the delusions of Ukrainian military victory.

He did have two cups of tea that one time.

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago

He also has someone bring his tea to him, complete bourgeois decadence as expected from Lengism

I'm pretty sure the source is made-it-the-fuck-up

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

made-it-the-fuck-up is the source for pretty much any western media anti-china reporting. It's effective because when you call them out they just become the most racist, virulent pieces of shit imaginable.

Others have answered but it’s also such a western end of history liberal capitalist brain worms thing to measure power only in wealth. When you’re in Xi Zinping’s position your personal money becomes irrelevant.

[–] jackmarxist@hexbear.net 25 points 3 months ago

He killed people worth billions so he's a billionaire in that sense.

[–] Red_Renewal_Cosmonaut@hexbear.net 24 points 3 months ago

absolute nonsense pay no attention, there is literally absolutely no source for this.

[–] WeedReference420@hexbear.net 21 points 3 months ago

They said the same about Castro back in the day, same bullshit and equally false

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 20 points 3 months ago

Xi Jinping's family is pretty damn rich. His elder sister Qi Qiaoqiao was a businesswoman and investor. He has other millionaires in his family as well.

In 2014, he instructed his family to start selling off their assets as part of the anti-corruption campaign. (Paywall) https://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/18/world/asia/chinas-president-xi-jinping-investments.html

So they are definitely millionaires, but not nearly as rich as people claim, and Jinping has at least taken some action to limit the risk of influence there.
