Just played The Quarry, and it was a blast. Can highly recommend if you enjoy choices based story games. My favorite genres are story games, turn based tactical, and roguelikes. I find I don't have a huge amount of time to play, so I like games that aren't too complex and that you can pick up and play without having to remember how the game works.

Didn't follow TGAs this year. For 2024 games, I really enjoyed Selaco, Spiritfall, Portal Revolution, and Arco.

I only played around 5 minutes of the My Sims Kingdom that came out on the Switch. I am in my finals week so I haven’t been able to play anything, but after the 19th I’m free (until January)! My favourite genre seems to be cozy games, so that’s interesting, although I also like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Legend of Zelda, so I don’t know what to say about that.

I don’t pay attention to the game awards, I think CaseOh won something. I liked playing my switch games and some on steam this year, not much gaming from me unfortunately. I imagine next year will be even less games because it’s my final year of undergrad which means I have to lock in.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Never heard of CaseOh before the event

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I’ve only ever seen clips of him on TikTok but he’s hilarious and hot, double whammy! An award well deserved

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago

Oh damn, I could use some comedy. Guess I'll check them out.

Still on factorio. About 120 hours into the save. Pausing now to study programming a bit, but will play less hard, for the upcoming months, likely.

I was soooo excited for Veilguard. Guess which game I kinda hate? 😅

[–] InquisitiveApathy@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I will never forget the intense and deep disappointment I felt after playing DA2. I hear Inquisition was better, but the entire series was dead to me from that point forward and I lost faith in direction of the series from that point.

I'm not the "stop having fun" type, but it's a bummer to hear that they never managed to bring it back to the great to the same spot that made the first game so phenomenal.

[–] TTH4P@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I know what you mean. I really enjoyed Inquisition, I still play it today. It's not perfect but it's great. Veilguard just feels like a bad cartoon. Example: I'm playing as a Shadow Dragon and everyone keeps explaining to me what the Shadow Dragons do. Ok, yep, read the codex, read my own intro, I got it.

[–] InquisitiveApathy@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It was originally supposed to be a heavily monetized live service game and they had to pivot really late in development because of backlash during playtesting. A lot of the weirdness you see like that is because they were reworking what basically amounted to a bad mmo. I hear the last few hours of the story are pretty good though.

Replayed two flash games from my childhood that held up incredibly well. First was Battle of Britain 303 Squadron, and the second 1066. Would recommend if you have 15 minutes to spare!

This was probably the best TGA ever. Even the skits were funny. Definitely intrigued by the idea of an Elden Ring spin-off but the football game from the Sifu devs looked really cool too.

@Makan I've played a bit of Mirthwood an indie game that's kind of a mashup between stardew valley and the sims

Then went to check out Path of Exiles 2 which I'm enjoying so far.

I've been playing some Pokémon. I'm mostly finished w/ Fire Red, just need to rematch the Elite 4, and I'm mostly done with Let's Go Pikachu too, which I started playing because a friend is also playing right now. And although it is extremely easy difficulty wise, I'm doing a living dex since catching Pokémon in this game is, at least, fun.

I'm getting the urge to go back to Baldur's Gate 3, Breath of the Wild and Disco Elysium, all which I haven't finished yet, unfortunately.

About TGA, I wasn't expecting another FromSoftware game, and it being an Elden Ring alternate reality 3-player roguelike? SIGN ME IN, the trailer was cool, I want to see where this goes. Other than that, the only other games that caught my attention where the football game which looked so fucking cool, and this comes from someone that absolutely hate sports games, specially Fifa; The Long Dark looked super cool too and the new Ninja Gaiden looked amazing. I'm also interested in Onimusha after the trailer on TGA, so I'll take a look into the games some time.

Guardians of the Galaxy. It's a pretty fun game. I got it on a Steam sale.

I play very few games these days.

Favorite genre is hands down RPG though I also have a soft spot for retro RTS games because the first video games I played were RTS (C&C).

I don't know anything about the situation (and haven't played the game) but I also must chime in and say I think Black Myth Wukong possibly got shafted at the recent awards on geopolitical basis. I think the west is at that phase where they are going to actively suppress Chinese culture and media in ways that involve pressure and behind the scenes stuff to prevent them from gaining official recognition and a platform.

I've been playing a lot of Baldi's Basics Plus (0.8 update) recently. Probably going to play either more FreedroidRPG or Songs of Syx next. My favorite genres are still the same: Any type of RPG (turn-based, action, ...) and RTS games, particularly more complex city builders.

I've watched TGA but there is nothing really in particular that stands out to me. Maybe Witcher 4? But I want to see some gameplay first. In terms of 2024 games I really enjoyed Portal: Revolution.

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Wow, FreedroidRPG looks interesting. Can you elaborate more on it?

currently playing ys x: nordics. in the last chapter, so, might finish it soon. really enjoyed my time with it lol.

also playing some crimsonland, used to play that game a lot as a kid.

wanna play memories of celceta (ys 4) next. but might also give metal gear rising a shot, because M E M E S . i also wanna give dragon quest 3 a go too, idk why. maybe because i missed out on the classic jrpg era and was thrust straightforward into the deconstructionist/2deep4me era?

there are some other games that i have on my library that i wanna try too.

i will say however that it was nice and exciting to hear that okami's getting a sequel. (wish they'd port okamiden to pc too though)

I got into RDR and Metal Gear solely because of memes, best decision I've ever made.

These 2 are like BB/BCS of games in terms of it.

lmao these look like youtube video thumbnails

Yea, they're thumbnail memes with that specific letters, I think it started with video with BRAIN INJURY? one and then it went off, it was used to no end on r/okbuddychicanery.

Replayed Assassin's Creed Syndicate(relevant), goated game and last good AC in my opinion.

Next whatever is on sale on Steam.

Favorite genres are horror(any kind), action/adventure and SCI-FI.

I didn't see it tbh and except SH 2 remake, there's nothing special in particular this year.

My favorite announcement was Okami.

The 2024 game I enjoyed most was Paper Mario.

Just about finished up playing Assassin's Creed Mirage, was waiting for it to come out on Steam. Have definitely enjoyed it a lot, was nice to play a new AC game thats closer to the originals in style, as I like the stealth gameplay. They did a super good job recreating 8th century Baghdad, clearly a lot of care went into it. I love little details how like if you go to the market area you can hear foreign traders speaking their own languages. The attention to detail in the city is really good and the place feels very alive. It makes me really want to see them do another game in this style focused on maybe 2nd century Rome, as I still have yet to see a game properly tackle recreating Rome at the height of its wealth and power. If anyone can do that justice its this team as they nailed Baghdad.

As much as I enjoyed the game it also made me realize that I kind of like the more sprawling RPG direction games like Odyssey and Valhalla took. It makes me excited for the new Japan AC next year. Ubisoft gets shit on a lot for good reason but I really like the open world games they make, I have a lot of fun with them.

I didnt watch The Game Awards but I saw some of the announcements, definitely interested in the new Turok and Okami games. Nothing else really stuck out for me, Witcher 4 looks cool of course but for whatever reason I've always bounced off of the Witcher games, tried all 3 at various points and have never been able to enjoy them. Maybe this one will be different who knows.

2024 I actually played a lot of games, probably more than I should have. None of them were games released recently really but I had an absolute blast replaying Fable Anniversary and Zelda Wind Waker HD this year. Also played through Dark Souls remastered for the first time this year, extremely good remaster of a great game. I also played 2 and 3 again this year but after playing them all in quick succession I think DS1 is my favorite. Such tight level design and atmosphere, and the game suits my preferred playstyle of hiding behind a shield and smacking people with a mace.

I finished Tactical Breach Wizards recently, which is weird, because I usually bounce hard off turn based tactical games. I also generally suck at them. That doesn't stop me trying them every once in a while because I really -want- to get into them. TBW is one of those rare ones that plays more like a puzzle game and I really enjoyed it. I played on easy and found the mechanics very forgiving. Gameplay mostly revolves around setting up combos with each character's unique skills, allowing for some very satisfying outcomes when everything goes to plan. Writing is top notch; the story is fun, funny, engaging, humorous and touching with some really good character moments. Art style is very much low-poly pastel indie style, but it's well executed and looks good IMO. Veterans of the genre might find it a little simplistic, and the main campaign is fairly short, but I absolutely loved it.

i played the Indiana Jones game a bit last week.. it's not really all that great but somehow it's just good enough to keep me trying to collect the things and whip Nazis

I download just about every game that comes out but most of them i delete within an hour or two of playing

i actually started playing tf2 again after many many years of not playing it .. it's still the same game i remember and loved, but i would love it if there was a MegaTF mod for it like there was for TF on Quake

What Video Games Have You Played Recently?

I recently finished Indika which is this strange little indie game where you play as a nun in the Russian Orthodoxy and my god. It was perfect, an insane story, the set-pieces were excellent, and the discussions on theology were very well written and for someone never really exposed to religion much it was very interesting.

Favorite Video Game Genre?

Probably social deduction multiplayer games. I do really enjoy a good single player story, but nothing is as addictive to me as a good game of SS14 or 13. There is so much fun to be had and every game you play is unique.

What did you like most from the recent TGA 2024, assuming you watched it or know of the announcements

Probably my most anticipated game from there is The Long Dark II just because a multiplayer version of that game should be fun. I anticipate zomboid but without zombies which should be fun

[–] PoY@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

i really like Indika's style, i haven't had a game grip my attention like that in a very long time but I kept getting stuck in the chase thing with the beast and finally just gave up

[–] BRINGit34@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago

I really do recommend you finish it. The game gets a lot more depressing after that and the ending really does hit you like a brick. Would recommend

[–] MidWestKhagan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I know it’s milsim but I’ve been playing more squad recently. Sometimes it feels good playing a resistance group fighting Americans and winning. I’ve also been playing a lot of call of duty black ops 6, it’s so fun. Haven’t had this much fun since I think MW2 from 2010(?) i for got when it came out, but it’s a blast. I also found a really interesting game called catacalismo, it’s like tower defense, Minecraft, base building, and something else combined. I really enjoy it, for my perfectionist brain making things look nice is just really fun and my diagnosed OCD enjoys the thought of optimizing supply routes through building things. I’ve played a lot of Baldur’s gate 3 this year but I only like to play it with my wife, so i haven’t touched it recently. Dragon age veilguard is also pretty fun but I can tell they just really wanted to finish this game, they put a lot of heart into it, but there’s some choices made that I feel are amateurish. Space marine 2 was fun for a little bit, since I upgraded my PC I decided to finally play a game I’ve always wanted to but never had the hardware for: world in conflict Soviet assault.

My absolute favorite is RPG but only if it allows for detailed facial and body customization, plus background information, and basically DND. Second favorite would be Mil-Sim. I don’t know why, but I think I like the teamwork involved, which is weird because I have always preferred to work alone in all my academic work. I also like guns so playing tacticool Barbie is always fun.

I liked Witcher 4, Okami 2, and fragpunk, the entire thing was more awkward than usual this year. I had to be totally stoned to be able to finish the rest.

I absolutely 100% enjoyed COD BLOPS6 the most, I’ve pulled off some crazy shit that I still think about. Also every time I get play of the game and number 1 on the podium I can shout pro Palestine stuff and they can’t talk shit cause I played way better than them. The game that I’ve put most hours in though is destiny 2, we’re talking thousands of hours, but I think I’ve finally broken up with it (unless frontiers turns out to be amazing). I get the thought to play Destiny 2 and then I remember that I have to do XYZ which is gonna take forfuckingever and feel exhausted without even playing it. I got a baby that’s about to turn one years old, I don’t have time to spend tens of hours to grind for one gun that I’m gonna use once a year. Being back SRL and I’ll play it everyday again, but right now it’s just in a bad place, I especially cannot stand that the transmog system is so damn monetized. You get five free transmog tokens that you can grind out per season per character to be able to unlock the armor you already paid for transmog. DIablo 4 being activation doesn’t monetize transmog, that’s how greedy bungie has become

[–] Makan@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 6 days ago

Many people thought it was better this year, but I understand the awkwardness. And yeah, speak truth to power in BLOPS 6 of all games. And yeah, the problem with Diablo 4 is huge.

Also, Okami 2 looked gorgeous.

[–] IvarK@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago (3 children)

The Bazaar has been hitting REALLY nicely over the past week or two ngl, highly recommend if you’re into that sort of nerd shit
