/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

They're not looking down because the genetics are being purified or mismatched in unusual .... and to them unnatural ways.

They'd be pissed because couples chose to inter breed between species and would require lots of genetic engineering and manipulation to make their coupling possible .... the same engineering that was outlawed in the eugenics war.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Bit ironic, considering many of those species are engineered descendants of the progenitors.

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I never thought of it before but the Illyrians are, in some ways, carrying on the work of the progenitors.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago

Which, of course, the Federation put the kybosh on their inclusion because of those decisions.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Except interspecies relations wouldn't procreate on its own and if it worked at all would require serious help from science. Spock was a result from lots of genetic assistance, and that's being very distantly related (TNG The Chase).

In DS9, Dukat accidentally knocks up two Bajoran women and I seriously doubt they were undergoing advanced medical treatment to deliberately have a child in either situation.

There was a TNG episode that revealed that this ancient species seeded the galaxy with life which explains why there are so many humanoid species and might also explain how different species are capable or procreating.

On Voyager Harry Kim hooks up with an alien that gives him a glowing std.

[–] Infynis@midwest.social 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

On Enterprise, Trip got impregnated in an alien holodeck

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Can we just all by mutual agreement say that Trip never got impregnated in an alien holodeck? Just for the sake of Enterprise as a whole?

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Nope, it's canonical that Trip had nipples on his arm.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Not in my headcanon. The Koala undid it.

I couldn't get into ENT when it was broadcast. Where should I start binging, and what should i skip?

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's actually not bad at all. I think it just really suffered from is timing. A heavy Texan accent after 4 years of really shitty Bush corruption, a really dumb opening theme song, being a show about the past of the future that's still the future, and Temu Angalina Jole. When you remove it from the mid 00s it's really well done. But you know. Skip that opening credits hard that song still sucks ass aggressively.

[–] SirSamuel@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The overly sexualized decontamination scene Rick Berman'd me so hard my suspension of disbelief was ruined not just for that scene, but the whole series.

I'd like to avoid that if possible.

The Texas accent actually wasn't bad for me, but I get what you're saying. And the skip button was invented for commercials but continues to exist for the ENT intro

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

I'm rewatching it now, and there's a lot less of that decon chamber cheese than I remembered.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

It's all worth it for the final season which is basically one long TOS tribute (except for the last episode which is one of the worst Star Trek episodes ever).

[–] Infynis@midwest.social 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I loved the Augment episodes so much, and I will always mourn the loss of season 5 Shran

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

So many people hate the augment episodes and I just don't know why. I thought it was a brilliant solution to the Klingon differences thing.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

And SO much Jeffery Combs. He should really be a captain by now.

[–] ubergeek 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Nope. And Paris and Janeway had salamander babies too.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I have come to accept that one. I cannot accept Pregnant Trip.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 6 points 3 weeks ago

It wouldn't be the first time different canon collided with each other. In that case I tend to go with the one that makes more sense.

[–] control@startrek.website 4 points 3 weeks ago

I read somewhere that there is an implication that cardassians are descendants of ancient bajorans (see solar sailboat episode)

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Humans from Terra Prime looking up at their descendants banging aliens...

[–] grue@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

At first I mistook that for "Terra Nova" and got really confused.

Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations- unless that diversity or those combinations include genetic modification in which case HOW DARE YOU EVIL PEOPLE!!!

[–] jmcs@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 3 weeks ago

Sexual selection is significantly different from genetic manipulation and eugenics.
