10 years an electrician. I have never seen OSHA. The only time I've heard of OSHA showing up anywhere, the person that called got in trouble.

Not so fun fact: depending on the state you live in, you may not be able to sue your employer if you are injured due to their negligence. If you work in an unsafe place you should document and report what you see to the relevant authorities and then find a new job

Every day i am once again surprised, about how fucked up the US really is

Don't worry, Trump will fix it!

Just get rid of OSHA. Can’t have an unsafe work environment if there’s no one to check if a work environment is unsafe

Does this mean the time of the lawyer commercials where we May be Entitled to Compensation may no longer be a thing anymore?

It means in some states, such as California and Oregon, but likely others as well, workers comp is the sole relief for an injured worker. All injuries are considered no-fault and the injured worker has no right to go after their employer unless they can prove that their employer intended to do harm. The injured workers only gets the medical treatment and whatever disability payout workers comp tosses their way.

So, if your supervisor is drinking at work and ignoring warnings about dangerous equipment and then you get hurt by that equipment, you cannot sue. If your supervisor wrote an email about how they didn't fix some equipment so that it would hurt someone and you get hurt by that equipment, you might be able to sue.

If the current dystopian US government abolishes OSHA, the LiveLeak logo might appear over American workers and not only Chinese workers like in the 2000s.

Just like in the good old times, who needs a safety harness when there's a vast emptiness and certain death lurking right under you?

[–] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Lol OSHA is kinda corrupt but if they can keep asshole owners in line with threats then I'll take it.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

OSHA did 911.

Think about it. We know that the buildings were destroyed in a controlled demo. The whole point of a controlled demo is safety. What kind of a diabolical organization would murder 3,000 people using the best safety practices???!!!

That channel kicked off my interests in disasters of all kinds. I think it’s a good hobby to have these days, I don’t see the number of disasters decreasing as time progresses.

Above is a link to the US chemical safety board, they investigate the worst chemical related incidents across the nation. In the chemical industry it is understood that these facilities are bombs. Bombs containing bio-weapons. OSHA is the only thing standing between lit fuses ready to kill hundreds and poison thousands.

Anyone going after OSHA is a straight pycho.

Edit: It should be noted, that despite their mandate, right now, they are barely a speed bump on the road to complete systems failures in facilities across the nation. Earlier this year a plant making food coloring in Kentucky, somthing that goes unregulated by PSM, exploded in a residential area. Killing workers and traumatizing the community. If anything OSHA needs bolstering not abandonment.

The private sector will not do this work. After watching companies ignore saftey concerns year after year, ultimately leading to disaster, it is now recommended a safety specialist be on the board of all PSM regulated companies.

It kills me that the CSB has little (no?) authority to enforce their findings. All they can do is make recommendations.

They work hand and hand with OSHA but no, on their own, they have no power is my understanding.
