This would be amazing. As a software engineer who potentially wouldn't mind moving to Europe though I'm pretty biased.

I wonder how much of a chunk they could realistically take out of the US share in some of these sectors. Things like social media can be pretty entrenched.

I'm not sure how to feel about social media, because besides lemmy I don't use any, but the EU is very active in a lot of open source projects, and I think they are able to have quite an impact.

Knowing American competitive strategies this going to be the age of lawsuits and popup courts.

Bring it on. Unlike the USA, the EU is not ruled by big businesses.

I dont know any successful European cloud, not like the US ones. We have hetzner and stuff like that, but nothing comes close to Amazon or Google with its hundreds of services. Not sure we could compete.

Yeah not to sound negative but European tech generally sucks ass. The Netherlands and Nordic countries are maybe a bit of an exception but they're still using fax in countries like France and Germany...

USA still uses fax...

Please. US technology is rapidly being weaponized not just against the EU but against the US' own citizens. We need quality local alternatives.
