I made this comment over 4 years ago describing my observations of that sub, turns out I hit the nail on the head

Last year I finally figured out what r/collapse's deal is, they're downwardly mobile (upper middle to lower middle) suburban millennial kids who discovered capitalism exists, half of them know it as capitalism and the other half think it's "cOrruPt hUmAn NatUre"

Facets of reality that would appear "normal" or obvious to people who exist under or just above the poverty line gets confused as signals of impending collapse (which to be fair on a long enough timeline probably are)

Those kids are harmless, but they get worked up real easy, most of them probably never set foot in an apartment until they left for collage

I mean i am not at all surprised they found their way to the billions must die subreddit.

one of the most sus people I know is always mentioning this sub whenever he brings up something he's read

I unsubbed from a bunch of subreddits (TooAfraidToAsk, NoStupidQuestions, OutOfTheLoop, a handful of others I don't remember) that just got full of shitlibs circlejerking with questions like "Why would President dRumpf enact this policy that will destroy the US Economy" or "Why would Elon Musk's DOGE -----" (I stopped reading before the end). It just got annoying. I don't follow the politics subreddit because it's shitlib central, and the shitlibs were leaking everywhere. And then they and conservatives would get into pointless arguments not realizing that they're on the same side.

I love how "we almost didn't lose!" is apparently a reason to give up hope. Dems are such losers that they get excited when they almost don't lose. What a big accomplishment guys wow good job

Yeah, the original collapse discord is still pretty good for actual information and discussion, at least from my rare pop over to have a look. Generally better politics as well.

I missed the drama, but I think as the subreddit diverged from that, they made their own more lib-aligned discord.
