Once again demonstrating how unreliable the American government has become.

It will be a very long time before the international community trusts America.

Give it a century

I thought the invasion would end 80 days ago. Trump said so. 🤭🤡🤡🤡

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

[–] Spzi@lemm.ee 4 points 1 hour ago

Such a FLOTUS. It's all lies and empty promises, coated in idle boasting. What a fucking loser.

[–] Birdie@thelemmy.club 14 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Putin wouldn't fold. Trump doesn't know how to handle that so he noped out.

[–] lewdian69@lemmy.world 10 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

You mean Zelinsky wouldn't fold. Trump never wanted Putin to actually fold.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Zelensky folded. He signed the mineral deal.

[–] HowAbt2day@futurology.today 5 points 1 hour ago

No peace talks means the US is uninterested in peace. Back to supporting war I suppose.

[–] Zahtu@feddit.org 22 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

And with the US-Ukraine Ressource Deal being singed too. So they bascically Held Ukraine at gunpoint Dekanding all their remaining Ressources while Russia raped them. The US is no longer trustworthy. They now sit Back, while Europe will have to steer the War Into a favorable direction, b/c they have to. If Russia eins or loses does Not Matter anymore for US, b/c they will benefit either way.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

The US is no longer trustworthy.

And it will take a lot of time and effort from the Americans to regain the trust of the international community.

[–] lewdian69@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I think the mineral deal is for future resources in unoccupied territory. If Russia wins US gets nothing right? So they can't really fully sit back. But I'll admit maybe I'm understanding wrong. The real key is that Trump got bored honestly.

[–] RedditIsDeddit@lemmy.world 37 points 5 hours ago

hey look it's almost like Donnie has no idea what to do about anything

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 22 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

The weird thing is that neither BBC,CNN, the Guardian, not my countries newspapers have this news item.

[–] maki@lemm.ee 8 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I was gonna say the same. No other outlet is reporting this (yet) so let’s see

[–] FarceOfWill@infosec.pub 2 points 3 hours ago

If you can't trust lebedev's newspaper on russian related matters who could you trust?

So much for ending the war in one day.

[–] taladar@sh.itjust.works 41 points 10 hours ago

Well, at least the US did remove a giant obstacle to a lasting peace from the war - Trump.

What they have basically done is mug a rape victim.

[–] dutchkimble@lemy.lol 6 points 6 hours ago

So peace out?

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 24 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Question is: now that we got the big loud bully out of the house, can the EU and maybe someone else who is sensible, like Canada, enter the room and bring actual diplomatic value to this sharade?

[–] jrs100000@lemmy.world 26 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Probably not. Russia's motives dont stem from a communications failure. They stem from predatory imperialist intent, and they arnt scared of the EU or Canada.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 6 points 5 hours ago

If Europe shows resolve, Russia's ambitions will crumble.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 11 hours ago

Some one got a call from their handler

[–] thejml@lemm.ee 178 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Probably a good thing, the US sucked at it anyway. Ukraine was going to be forced to concede so much… Art of the Deal strikes again.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 66 points 15 hours ago (8 children)

Nah, Trump got what he wanted, the minerals deal. Now he can keep sanctions on China for longer while we strip mine Ukraine for rare earth minerals.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemm.ee 67 points 12 hours ago (3 children)

Lol, we aren't going to be mining anything. Rare earth minerals aren't rare because they're only located in isolated places, they're rare because they are only present in small amounts when mining other materials.

The hard part is the refining of rare earth minerals because it requires large investments in refineries to separate the materials and consolidate them. Infrastructure that Ukraine or America haven't invested in.

The minerals deal is just something that trump can point to as a "win" when in reality it's not worth anything. Just like everything this administration does, it's nothing but smoke and mirrors.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 8 points 5 hours ago

Ukraine doesn't even have significant rare earth deposits. Nothing worth mining.

However, those aren't the only thing in the deal. Bunch of other minerals are in there, and oil and natural gas.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

I’m aware, but they’re also unfortunately rare in the US, and we need batteries if we don’t maintain a good trade relationship with China.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemm.ee 4 points 2 hours ago

America actually has plenty of rare earth deposits, it's just not profitable to mine them and then build facilities to refine them.

[–] dzso@lemmy.world 17 points 11 hours ago

In that case, looks like Zelenskyy had the cards.

[–] torrentialgrain@lemm.ee 21 points 10 hours ago (3 children)

Bro the US isn’t going to mine shit in an active war zone. The mineral deal might be beneficial if peace is reached but not before that.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 hours ago

If peace is reached and maintained. If Russia doesn't get all of Ukraine, how long is it going to be until they invade again? No one is going to want to invest in building a mine with that hanging over it.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 6 points 5 hours ago

Typical Trump deal: nothing substantial, but he loudly claims credit for it anyway.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Doesn't really matter. Trump got a deal. In Donnie's diseased mind, it doesn't matter what it says, only that it exists.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 5 points 4 hours ago

It all makes sense when you realize he's a trust-fund idiot cosplaying as a businessman.

Ironically, that might be the most useful contribution to eventual peace in Ukraine the US has made for some time now.

Thanks, I guess.
