I would write a lengthy response, but....

This is why I have a backlog of Lemmy notifications.
I just march forward and resign myself to pearls before swine. I don't even pay attention to the notifications or the replies. No war but the class war.
I'm using boost and boost for lemmy tells me I have 5 new replies/messages. Unfortunately, they're not there, so I assume a mod or user itself deleted the comment before I could read it, but the unread messages number never went down
Here's one extra!
Often. Even more often I realize there is no point since the recipient is either a troll or incapable of rational thought.
Yes, I write more than twice the work emails than I send. I spend 15 minutes on slack composing a reasoned response with examples and references then edit it down to one sentence. Because I know from bitter experience noone reads long form, at least, not for work. They'd rather spend weeks back and forth on one liners with days in between responses, or only when prompted, than answer one email properly and the whole thjng sorted in a day. Even this is too long. But I'm going to hit submit before the urge to edit overhwlems me.
I type like 1000 words, then I realized I'm gonna look so stupid if nobody reads it and it remains at 1 vote, so I just delete it before I embarass myself.
(I don't care about upvotes, I just want to get the acknowledgement that someone read it so I know my time wasn't wasted.)
Edit: I wish there was a "read" button. It's for the times when you acknowledge reading it but you don't like it enough to upvote it.
Can someone add this to Lemmy? 👀
If you believe your point is worth making, then your time isn’t wasted. There are more lurkers than commenters, and your words might have an impact of them without you realizing it.
Say it because you believe in it, and not because you want validation.
That would have to be an automatic action, cause I ain't hitting a button when reading comments. I don't even upvote/downvote enough
I envy you, I wish for ability to write thousands of words with ease.
I've got ya, my dude.
What you’re going to the feature?
I do this on comments. But not this comment.
i also didn't do this on this comment.
I did it on this comment, but then I went back and wrote this.
Had the uno reverse of this the other day. I don’t want to respond to this to justify myself, but damned if I’m gonna let this mf have the last word.
Lol. Hard to fight that one.
Some things aren’t worth engaging with, like when you know the other person can’t or doesn’t want to be reasoned with, or just wants to get a rise out of you.
98% of everything I write gets deleted almost immediately. More if we count typos.
Curious about the math you use to calculate that percentage. Show your work!
Hah! I would have estimated more like one percent but I do still type with a real keyboard occasionally, where I am markedly faster and more accurate. Nevertheless, I still delete most emails, notes, comments, etc without saving them.
That's really curious to me. I delete what must be less than 1% of the things I write with the intention to send. Maybe I'm reckless? Or maybe I think carefully enough before deciding on starting to type something worth sending? I dunno.
But deleting almost one hundred percent of what you type, seems like a lot of wasted time at the keyboard, to me.
I type pretty fast, it is more just that my brain doesnt work very well. Many times I am writing things just to organize my thoughts.
Okay, yeah. I wonder how long it took you to write those other 99 comment drafts that you discarded before sending this last one. Or the one before your latest comment. 😅😉
Yes, all the fucking time.
all. the. time.
More like “Oh god, what if they reply? I don’t have the time for this.”
Fuck that shit, I use AI to summarize basically all my overly extended work emails
"Wait a minute this dude comments on piss drinking subs I dont owe this mf shit about taste wtf"
lol how old is that image
… … …
Fuck it.
