I wouldn't try it with MGS4 yet lol

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

I just downloaded it and the interface looks nicer than RCPS3 android at least ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Need to re-download the firmware and pick a game to try, then i can compare the 2

Once the $2000 donation goal was reached, the source code would be released.

Ooh I remember this now.

Anyway, any good ps3 games I should consider playing for the first time?

I'm gonna skip the obvious titles and just give you a favorite of mine. Blur, its like Mario Kart with real cars and realistic locations.

[–] toarmspunies@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Blur has functional multiplayer private servers on PC if you aren't aware

[–] HistoryPug@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I didnt! I know the PS3 servers were still alive last I checked which is wild.

MGS4 if it runs, to my knowledge still a PS3 exclusive.

My weird suggestion would be one of the Top Spin tennis games. They are fun to play while having an audiobook, podcast or music running in the background. The multiplayer is fun too

armored core for answer

Super Stardust HD- little arcade shooter with cool weapons that takes place on various 3d planets with asteroids/enemies. Fairly light game comparatively so it should be a good test for plausibility.

It's one of the earlier games from the Returnal studio

I wonder how this compares to RPCSX.

[–] markinov@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

aPS3e is based on rpcs3, so probably similar performance.

[–] lapis@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

is it? that's good to know actually, I wonder if this is gonna end up like all the different forks of Yuzu, so aPS3e will be better for some games and RPCSX will be better for others.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Is that another android one? I just tried UMVC3 on both - aps3e wouldn't boot it and can't recognize my right joystick, and while rcps3 boots, it can only be used with Bluetooth controllers. So id be up to try a 3rd today while im making a thing of it

[–] lapis@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

yeah, RPCS3-Android was merged into RPCSX proper and became RPCSX-UI-Android.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Just downloaded it and already mapped the retroid controller, which fucks. Installing MVC3 again to give it a go

[–] lapis@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm assuming at this point that either your phone/handheld burst into flames or RPCSX is actually playable.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Of the shit ive tried rcpsx runs best, UMVC3 got to the char select screen and then hung. Ill muck around with settings, maybe. Probably would be easier just to wait a year or two for better hardware and a more stable release

[–] lapis@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

yeah, I've heard that PS3 emulation can be pretty rough if you're playing anything even slightly demanding, which is a shame. are you running one of the Retroid handhelds, by chance? I have their Flip 2 on order and plan to mess with some lower-end PS3 games on it.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, rocking a 5 and its been great so far, very few games ive tried that dont run smoothly out of the box. Thinking about trying the android switch emulator soon

[–] lapis@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

oh sick! I’ve heard good things about Switch emulation on the RP5/RPF2, though it does require finagling with different GPU drivers for different games, apparently. but I’ve seen some people getting solid 30fps+ in lightly modded BotW, which is really all I care about (I wanna play through it again but with the Linkle 3.0 mod, which I can’t do on official hardware).

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The PS3/360 is the last generation you need to emulate anyways, the graphics have not improved since then

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

Character models improved pretty noticeably in the PS4 generation, with much more convincing skin, hair and facial expressions

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Shit, I just got ps2 running stable on my potato. The last time I tried ps3 it ran at like 10 fps, and now we got phones running it smooth? Wild.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

Idk, ive got both this and rcps3 running on my retroid, might pick a game tonight and test them both out.
