Actually I think this would be perfect middle ground for volcan profanity but it's based around logic instead of the catholic church

Easy explanation: Upgrades to the universal translator have allowed more colorful language, which is often slang, to be translated correctly.

The non-swearing wasn’t because they were more « advanced » in the series, it was censorship from TV diffusers at the time (in the 60’s). Swearing simply wasn’t allowed on TV.
