What if it's on purpose? That branding sure is Iconic

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 40 points 1 week ago

I’m very sure it’s on purpose

Rockstar made their fictional company with San Andreas in 2004

https://www.grandtheftwiki.com/ProLaps

Seems like a hobby project with a subtle chuckle at the end of every benefitial article being published under that name

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is a real thing. They've got a website, a facebook, and a youtube.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 1 week ago

You’re not getting me this time, internet person! I’m not just going to start searching for prolapse on the web…. Not this time!

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 27 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Pro-Laps is also literally a GTA in-world brand name for an athletics clothing company 🤣

1000001667

they knew exactly what they did.

Or the plant nursery in an Australian town named Mole Station, who registered the obvious domain name that came to mind without thinking about it.

[–] 474D@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

That took me a few seconds but lmao

[–] sylver_dragon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Reminds me of the tech site from long ago, Experts Exchange. Their website was originally expertsexchange[.]com, and it showed in in google searches fairly regularly (they actually had some reasonable content at the start). Eventually, they added a hyphen.

It was featured in GTA 5 though

[–] abbadon420@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I thought it was a sports store or something there?

[–] Gork@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 week ago

Yeah, sold shoes so that you can lap around the track like a pro. Pro laps!

[–] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

~~This is actually genius. Free viral meme advertising.~~

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 10 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Then you have the GIMP problem where corporate won’t approve use because of the name.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 week ago

Yeah, if you want corps to piss off from using your code, you don't need to GPL it, just name it dick-wiggler or something

[–] parody@lemmings.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Big Ass Fans had this problem for church clientele, so they cover their logo

…usually

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 2 points 1 week ago

The ass in the logo is called Fanny.

[–] nebulaone@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

True, also I just realized that a google search might go wrong.

How? Nowadays GIMP is predominantly used for the software and all the top results reflect that.

Hell, GIMP is only used for the software in non-English speaking countries.

I saw this post while standing in line for a bagel. Right next to me was a stack of magazines. This was on top. Uncanny timing.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Bro that's literally the name of a GTA brand. It's called Pro Laps.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago

That's because you're weak, Amy. Weak.

[–] KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

I mean you wouldn't forget it.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 week ago

Lapse Pro was right there.
