This is why I think we need to be speaking in terms of "planetary crisis" rather than "climate change", because the changing climate is only half of it. We're already annihilating the biosphere without cranking the temperature up, and even if we magically dropped CO2 to pre-industrial levels, we'd still be staring down the barrel of a severe crisis.

You can just look at previous planetary crisises that were addressed, and just ask the question "what if we hadn't done anything?" to use the example leaded gas and CFCs: planetary devastation within a human lifetime. With CO2 emissions and PFAs, we're taking the FAFO route.

I like the term polycrisis. Climate change is such a broad socioecological thing that it can't be challenged without a really intersectional effort. It's as much a feminist and anticolonial struggle as it is anticapitalist and environmentalist.

This is the shit that really gets me at the end of the day. Knowing that nowhere on the entire planet is safe from this stuff and we have no idea of the long term consequences is just a lot to handle

Like it would be still not ideal, but one thing if the dipshits who enjoy living in garbage were stuck enjoying their cancer because “muh fweeeeedumz” but of course, people like me have to always be punished for other people’s stupidity.

To be fair, this is talking about limits that the EU is proposing, not whatever the UK currently has in place. You have to actually implement these standards and punish corporations for breaking them to actually change anything, which I would not expect from the ukkk

Oi! You got a loisence for all that PFOS Mr. Haddock? We set these limits for your own good you know! Why are we going to hurt corporations using the stuff when you're out here bio-accumulating it all anyway?!
