Orthodox Marxism but you become so orthodox you return to Hegelianism.

But for real though we do need a new Marxist 'head' to bring the ideology into the 21st Century, especially with the advent of the Information Age and all the socio-economic changes that brought.

Fidel is best choice and also became good on LGBT issues. Latin America is one of the few areas with genuine communist movements too

A real fun potential one would be Mariela Castro too she's written a good deal of stuff on state involvement with LGBT rights

Dark horse is Leslie Feinberg just to get people to Google hir

I'm surprised no one's done it yet cause I remember people doing it for Kamala Harris the moment she became the nominee.

i-think-that There is an argument to be made that everyone after Lenin doesn't deserve to be there (which is not to say I endorse such a thing)

Like if someone excluded Stalin, I'd be up in arms but somewhat understanding, Mao is 50/50. Still, to actually get to any of them at this point, you would need extraordinary contributions to both theory and praxis. Which I'm not sure we'll get for some time

But it's funny they include Hegel, since he was an idealist. Yes, he used dialectics, but you don't have to believe in them to actually be a socialist. Being a materialist is much more important, which Hegel was clearly not.

Mao is 50/50

no

I think, if we put Hegel, it's already becoming a "theoretical contributions count too" list. In which case I think adding Rodney or Losurdo makes the most sense. Both did the work that Lenin did before the Russian Revolution and made theoretical contributions that are significant.

But I only think that because you can't just put CPC instead of a face. Marxism is obviously being brought forward the most in practical terms by them.

Remove Hegel, put Ho Chi Minh and Fidel?

I guess it depends on what exactly you're trying to say as far as progression of thought and theory, but Hegel being firmly rooted in idealism means that the inclusion of his head in the great communist theoretician head sequence doesn't sit right with me. The line about Marx "turning Hegel on his head" makes it kind of interesting I suppose (they missed an opportunity by not making Hegel's head upside-down in the image!) but I think that's importantly what marked the start of genuine communist theory - otherwise we could have heads leading all the way back to ancient Greek and Eastern philosophers on there. Off with Hegel's head, I say.

Now I definitely need the Mussolini uh-oh emote but with Hegel's head. 🙃

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago

It would genuinely make more sense to add Adam Smith or a utopian communist like Robert Owen, though I think it's better to start with Marx because the point is the lineage of Marxism and not just who influenced who, because otherwise you'd need another 20 heads going back to Thales in 580 BC and probably some head of an unknown Egyptian scholar before that.
