Sounds like a great way to turn trading partners intoโ€ฆ not-trading non-partners.

What a time to be alive ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Just ask yourself who benefits from any of this and you know where these ideas come from.

Oh, I know. Itโ€™s blindingly obvious.

The EU recently agreed to pay 1500 milliard in gifts to the USA. The bed is made.

"They must know about our peaceful ways... by force!"

[โ€“] DmMacniel@feddit.org 71 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

And in return you will comply to the level playing field rules when it comes to your digital services, right?

[โ€“] Kirp123@lemmy.world 46 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What? No. And if you threaten to regulate their tech giants they will fund extremists in your countries or threaten you with even higher tariffs.

shhhh now go play with this LLM thatโ€™s harvesting all of your data and conversations ๐Ÿฅฐ

Said by a dumb as fuck republican who doesn't understand how cooked the US is because of him and the other Nazis.

What a great way to talk to your partners

[โ€“] starlinguk@lemmy.world 57 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He doesn't want a level playing field. A level playing field would mean obeying the same rules and regulations.

Exactly - a genuinly level playing field would mean the US adopting higher labor standards, environmental regulations, and consumer protections that many trading partners already have in palce.

Threatening is always a winning strategy lol. Countries are already cancelling deals with US. I am sure comments like this will make them reconsider.

[โ€“] xyro@lemmy.ca 32 points 2 weeks ago

Fuck them :)

Or what, you'll add more import taxes that will get passed on to the consumer?

Cool.

[โ€“] MehBlah@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago

Don't be competitive. We really don't believe in that in the US. We believe in excluding competitors since that is easier than innovating.

[โ€“] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 17 points 2 weeks ago

When someone starts throwing out threats, that means they are totally in control of the situation.

[โ€“] Nico_198X@europe.pub 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

fuck. off. we don't NEED you!

[โ€“] starlinguk@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Shame the EU thinks it does.

[โ€“] Nico_198X@europe.pub 5 points 2 weeks ago

we'll see. if i can trust the EU for anything, it's being bureaucratically obtuse and using that for its advantage. lets give it time.

Well I'm sure Brazil is happy with this dumbass statement.

I bet he has a great relationship with his wife, whit that understanding of what partnership is.

[โ€“] Geobloke@aussie.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago

Mate, we had an "unfair" relationship with you in your favour here in Australia and you still fucked it up

[โ€“] smashing3606@feddit.online 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

As an american to all GOP members - shut the fuck up! this shit is why everyone hates americans. Go home and be an isufferable piece of shit there, stop fucking up the country for the rest of us.

[โ€“] eskimofry@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"Level Playing field": Sell your countries to BP, the fruit company

"We are going to destroy you": CIA funds a coup and installs dictators who strike good deals with Joe Shmoe from Texas who happens to be a genius negotiator (don't look at the snipers aiming at you as you sign away your country).

Or you know, Iraq 2.0!

[โ€“] Tollana1234567 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

remember the coups they tried in south america, the ambassadors were quickly expelled.

[โ€“] eskimofry@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

the ambassadors should have been executed

[โ€“] Taalnazi@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Make a level playing field for non-Americans first.

America third, Europe first!

[โ€“] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

american farmers are literally the most subsidized in the world

[โ€“] Tollana1234567 2 points 2 weeks ago

and rural areas the sole reason behind propping up conservative politicians all over the wolrd in terms of voting numbers.
