So we should assume every redacted name is a Republican, got it.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 156 points 6 days ago (1 children)

No. Assume every Republican is on the list.

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Nah, some aren't wealthy enough.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 23 points 6 days ago (2 children)

When MTG is the voice of reason in that party recently. You know something is wrong.

She legitimately the only person I can believe wasn't connected to Epstein. And she's too stupid to realize that a real investigation leads to Trump and her in denial doing a 180.

I'm watching her with popcorn in hand.

It is a power struggle between grifters. When they smell blood in the water they try to climb themselves.

She's only doing it to keep her seat. Should still be replaced. While she's weirdly actually doing her doing her actual job and listening to her constituents, it's just a stop-gap until she's reelected, then she'll go back to shouting "Jewish space lasers" or whatever the hell and pandering to whatever Republican president is in office.

I say we replace all redactions with Trump’s name.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 36 points 6 days ago

Nah. He for sure is on there. I want them all to burn.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 60 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So now we know for sure the list includes Republicans.

[–] Showroom7561@lemmy.ca 34 points 5 days ago

LOL. Was there any doubt?

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 110 points 6 days ago (2 children)

So, what we need is the list from the victims read into record by AOC or the like. That's all I'd trust.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 53 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (10 children)

Do it now and no one gets held accountable.

Do it after republicans start prosecution of the Dems and it becomes much harder to bury the whole thing.

Plus, it gets rid of a shit ton of problematic Dems. If they were raping kids with Epstein, they're also doing way worse shit to prevent that from coming out.

That was the whole point, accumulate dirt, then blackmail.

In 2026 only one party will be able to say zero incumbents were named in the Epstein list, and every republican incumbent has to defend not holding their peers accountable, or even personally being on the list themselves.

trump trying to use corrupt Dems as sacrificial lambs is going to bite him in the ass

[–] CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 21 points 6 days ago

Assuming that is that they merely remove themselves from the list and leave whatever dems are on in. If theyre willing to edit the thing to remove themselves however, can they be trusted to not add people they particularly dont like, or remove any dems on the list that they are concerned might out the rest of the list if prosecuted?

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 16 points 6 days ago (1 children)

trump trying to use corrupt Dems as sacrificial lambs is going to bite him in the ass

Why would it when nothing else has yet?

This is the post-truth era, the only thing that sticks is spin.

AOC and MTG, side by side, reading from the same document. Just AOC alone would let conservatives shrug off every consequential name.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 83 points 6 days ago (4 children)

They won't release it.

Because if they release a list with only Dem names on it, surely there will be a former Biden Admin official with a copy of the full unredacted list, and they could just release that as retaliation.

Neither party would want to release it, because its M.A.D. at this point.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 51 points 6 days ago (2 children)

If there IS a hypothetical former Biden official with the full unredacted documents who doesn't have the courage to leak them, this hypothetical person needs to be hung from the nearest hypothetical tree.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Lots of MAGA claimed to want the swamp drained. Maybe a "true Qanon" person would also leak the list.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 13 points 5 days ago

Yeah, sure would be nice if they actually had political beliefs or principles they weren’t willing to discard when it made their garbage worldview inconvenient.

Hopefully they leave in all the black redactions and not just delete them.

That way we can see how many republicans were redacted.

However I fear they’re also fabricating and just adding as many enemies they need to it for a large night of long knives. Like their version of Project Insight.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 29 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

It'll literally be a notepad file called "jeffrey epstein list.txt" that list every democrat reps and senator.

[–] MajorasTerribleFate@lemmy.zip 25 points 5 days ago (1 children)

jeffrey epstein list(1)(1) final(1).txt

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

Don’t forget to prefix with “Copy of Copy of”

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 39 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (7 children)

Dude they are never releasing the full files. This is all just a fucking tease and while they're busy pretending to be bringing the hammer of justice down all the pedophiles they just chose to protect (once again) are casually helping set up and cement the authoritarian regime in cities across America.

Like when we reach the point that there is military patrolling every major city, elections are cancelled indefinitely for our own good, and they feel safe enough to just admit they're not releasing anything else, what do we even do?

This is like somebody who you caught robbing you, then giving you some of your stuff back to get you to shut up and not draw so much attention. Then reassuring you that you'll get the rest back soon, they just didn't feel comfortable giving it all back to you yet? What possible reason would you have to trust or believe that they'll do anything once the heat and focus has died down enough?

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 29 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (3 children)

what do we even do?

The French had this idea

An easy solution is to not redact anything.

This is ONLY a problem if the guilty are in charge.

Isn't this something that even most Republicans suspected this corrupted government would do?

All normal Americans suspected this because, well, duh. And Republicans that suspected the government under Taco would do this because that's their idea of "justice", and they expect him and his staff to deliver it.

It won't stop them from bleating, "See?! That's why the left never released them - because they're the only ones on it!" when they finally come.

[–] Alteon@lemmy.world 26 points 6 days ago (10 children)

My concern is that neither side has released a list because its going to be insanely ugly. Like the most powerful people in the US....and the fallout is going to be anarchy.

I have to believe that Biden's team looked at what the fallout would look like, and their reaction was "Oh....my....god. What they did was fuckjng horrific, but the country will literally implode if we release this."

I'm all for releasing it, we need a bit of a hard reset/wake up call.

Apparently it is safer to leave these blackmail compromised people in powerful positions.

Its gonna be a short list.....

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 22 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Disagree. The list will be shorter, but it's not necessarily a short list. Being a Democrat doesn't stop someone from being a PoS.

A few years ago someone posted a list of reported sex crimes by politically affiliated people. It was about 60/40 Republicans.

Nah, they'll just put in the names of everyone they don't like. The only name I'd be certain was already there is Bill Clinton's.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 27 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Still better than nothing.

Purge them out of the Dem party now, and get better options in. Then they can hold the ones that were protected accountable.

Getting them out of the Dem party now just helps our chances in the next elections

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Purge the Republicans from the Democratic party?

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 25 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I think they meant, "purge every Epstein list pedo out from the Democratic party."

Most corrupt group of morons I've ever seen. What a fucking clown show.

[–] elbucho@lemmy.world 19 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It wouldn't surprise me if this is at least partially true, but James O'Keefe has exactly zero credibility. He has made it his life's work to produce poorly-made works of fiction, and he has the audacity to call it investigative reporting.

Still, giving Republicans the benefit of the doubt on, well, anything feels deeply immoral.

[–] thallamabond@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago (2 children)

The worst person you know is still a person. I posted another story about Thomas Massie accusing a Billionaire GOP mega donor of being on Epsteins client list.

This is a big deal. GOP congressman from Kentucky, calling out HIS OWN BIG MONEY DONOR, and as far as I can tell he is standing alone on the republican side trying to get Epstein stuff public. I don't like the guy, but I can believe this endeavor is moral.

As a Democrat, I say don't redact any of them! If there's Democrats in there, everyone needs to know. Everyone needs to know all the people involved!

Stop being pussies and use this as a proper stepping stone to remove your rivals in the GOP! That's how villain organizations are supposed to work!

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 14 points 6 days ago

So 97% of the names huh?

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

FIrst off, O'Keefe lol. But secondly, if the guy on the video is actually a deputy chief like O'Keefe claims then 'staffer' is kind of underselling it.

I can't wait to see the pages of redactions. It's going to be a stack of like 20 pages with three or four enemies of Trump's on it. The rest are all redacted.

[–] NateNate60@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I'm going to make a prediction if they are going to release a list of some sort with names on it:

  1. They will redact names by using black highlight using computer software and then destroying the underlying text information by printing it out and scanning it, or something similar. This would prevent the most obvious form of getting around the redaction (which is extracting text information from underneath the highlight).
  2. They will make the rookie mistake of using a proportional font like Times New Roman for the names, which is a font wherein each letter has a different length, instead of a monospace font like this one where all characters are the same width.
  3. An investigative journalist will notice that one of the redacted names is exactly the same length as "DONALD JOHN TRUMP" typed in the document's font, and then applied black highlight over it.
[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (5 children)

I don't trust James Okeefe as far I could throw him. But I find it hilarious that their own snake is trying to bite them now! 🤣
