Jeans memes are funny, I just hate that 90% of the ones I've seen have been no effort AI slop. I'd so much rather see a shitty ms paint edit than an AI image for so many reasons, not the least of which is that it's just funnier seeing denim texture haphazardly pasted onto stuff than seeing an AI try to do it well

Ji Jont Junderstand Jhy Jeans Josts Jare Jo Junny

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

I mean I made a shitty edit of an image of tea inside a jean mug and it didn't do so well.

[-] synae@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 4 months ago

I liked that one

This right here.

MS paint or gtfo, for real

[-] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 34 points 4 months ago

meme becomes thing.

people like meme.

other people don't like meme.

meme goes away.

[-] Betch@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

But the memories are forever.

[-] HonoraryMancunian@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago
[-] Betch@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I mean yeah, of course. The jemories, the bemories and the memeries. They're all encompassed in the memories.

[-] Jumuta@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 months ago

Some people look at the community more than others, and so they get bored at repetitive memes very quickly.
Some people look at the community very infrequently, and so see the "new" jeans meme trend, and post their own.
The meme gets downvoted a shitton, but they don't see the downvote because they don't visit often.
As long as the trend is low effort enough to participate in, there are no repercussions from downvotes, and the amount of time different people spend here varies, this will continue happening.

That's why i think we should ban GenAI posts.

GenAI posts are dumb and unfunny anyway because people don't put effort into them.

[-] Betch@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I understand that side of the argument 100%, but really it doesn't last all that long, and it's not like there's all that much content being posted anyway.

This kind of stuff brings the community together, generates a couple laughs for people who often don't laugh all that much and honestly I'd be willing to bet that the people who found it annoying enough to actually be angry at it wouldn't have laughed at much else anyway.

I do feel bad for people who were annoyed by it, and I also understand the argument against AI. I participated in the bean and jean posting but personally I never used AI and very rarely upvoted AI generated content but I don't mind it, sometimes it hits.

I've had a blast playing with gimp and learning more about the workflow and image editing software and I will make no apologies for that >:3

Meme is jeeting

[-] FreshLight@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

Exactly

Looks like a healthy cycle to me. A good indicator that the community is thriving. Love it!

[-] Stern@lemmy.world 28 points 4 months ago

"Hey these jean memes are getting old. Should I-

A. Make another one.

B. Make a post complaining about them.

C. Make a new unrelated post."

There is one correct answer here, and it's not A or B. Choose wisely.

[-] jerrythegenius@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

do A and B, make another jitpost that complains about the amount of jitposts

[-] Paddzr@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

D. Comment how I'm tired of them on the very post.

[-] Noodle07@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

The answer is A

[-] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 19 points 4 months ago

Its funny how upset people are about the jean shitposts. Like it hasn't been the trend on this sub to just roll with a theme and beat it like a dead horse till its funny again?

[-] Jumuta@sh.itjust.works 14 points 4 months ago

sure it's funny if it's a shitty mspaint drawing of baked beans ~10m of effort
but GenAI images aren't very funny ~10s of effort

people put no thought into them and they come out bland

[-] Stache_@lemmy.ml 10 points 4 months ago

Yeah I kinda agree with you on that one. The power of AI to quickly drive a meme into the ground is becoming apparent

[-] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

Anybody recommend some kinda “MS Paint for iOS”?

[-] hperrin@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago

I’m just happy we’re over the Taylor Swift plane thing. That was weird. Jeans are great.

[-] ItsAFake@lemmus.org 28 points 4 months ago
[-] hperrin@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

I don’t know how to feel about this. Can I middle-vote this?

[-] ItsAFake@lemmus.org 6 points 4 months ago

You can flip me off if you want.

[-] sibannac@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago

you already have

Can I get a hat wobble?

[-] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

That's just a flight from Air Canada's Tuxedo program, a new mid-tier luxury option between economy and first class.

[-] Jumuta@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago

the taylor swift thing was funny when it was shittily done with mspaint or whatever though

[-] Acinonyx@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 4 months ago

no it's called shitposting not shit posting

[-] clemdemort@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Jean posting

[-] ohlaph@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

I dig the jean posts. My kind of humor.

[-] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Bring back stroganoff posting!

[-] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago
[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Its a concatenation of the two for a reason.

[-] SoupBrick@yiffit.net 2 points 4 months ago

Wtf, 🙄 why is there so much shit in my shitpost community. Where can I get some QUALITY content around here???

[-] Carlo@lemmy.ca -4 points 4 months ago

What's funny is that I browse here at least once a day, and I've seen zero of these jeans memes. Not a one. Dunno wtf you're all on about. Nor am I particularly interested. But this is the third damned meta post I've seen about these—apparently rampant—jeans memes.

[-] Maalus@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

What's funny is that you are lying. Just going to the community, there is at lest 5 out of 10 that are jeans posts, and old ones too. Unless you blocked the authors, there is plenty of them to see.

[-] Carlo@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago

What the hell would my motivation be to lie about that? What a demented take. Ironically, right after posting the comment I did see a post with Patrick Stewart all in denim. First one. I think it's quite likely that I had already blocked many of the authors. One has to curate one's own experience here, and I frequently block people who repeatedly post content I'm not interested in, or just act like assholes. It's great!

[-] Maalus@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Yeah, so you can't say "there is no denim posts I haven't seen any" when you have most of the authors there blocked.

[-] Carlo@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

I didn't say that they didn't exist. I merely commented on the fact that I hadn't seen any, which seemed odd to me, given the three meta posts which I had seen. There was really no reason at all for you to react with hostility (and more than once—like, what's your deal?*). Given that I already had you tagged as an idiot centrist, I'll be happily adding you to the list!

*This is rhetorical; I don't care

[-] Maalus@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

"Dunno wtf you are all about" "idiot centrist" but it's the people calling you out that are wrong. Rethink how you go about posting on the internet. The world doesn't revolve around you.
