Put them both in soundproof booths and only turn on their microphones when it’s their turn to actually respond to a question.

[–] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world 36 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Let's make it more interesting, shock collars for both of them.

[–] Potatofish@lemmy.world 21 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Don't bring your kink into this

[–] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world 18 points 8 months ago (3 children)

You got me but who wouldn’t want to see Trump take so many Amps he craps himself on live TV?

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

Definitely a difficult fap

[–] gregorum@lemm.ee 10 points 8 months ago

I doubt electricity would be necessary

[–] docAvid@midwest.social 3 points 8 months ago

Yeah, definitely not my kink, an absolute turn off, but still.... Very compelling TV.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

You can’t broadcast the murder of two elderly people on national TV, they’d have put it on HBO or pay per view

[–] hydrospanner@lemmy.world 14 points 8 months ago (4 children)

It has seemed like the painfully obvious solution for years to simply have both mics powered off until and unless it's time for that candidate to speak.

If they get 30 seconds, after 30 seconds, the timer cuts the power again.

This is genius

There's no point in debating anyways. What has Trump done in all of the debates he's ever partaken in since 2016? It's nothing but loud mouth, underhanded and stepping over boundaries kind of tactics. That's all he's got, it's all he's had and it's all he's ever going to have. There is no point in debating about serious issues with a diaper-shitting loudmouth who's going to just rabble at you. It'd be like talking to a dumb Reddit troll who's an armchair know-it-all.

[–] _number8_@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago (2 children)

there's no point debating at all because it doesn't change anyone's minds, it's just who can score the more points. trump knows how to score points: be funny and roast the competition rather than droning on about politic minutae that no one watching truly cares about or remembers

and if the issues are so serious, why would you not interrupt the opposition and be underhanded rather than letting him carry on to be polite? pandora's box has been opened, debates are effectively entertainment and people want their guy to be entertaining. i wish someone on the left would adopt the trump style bombast and use it benevolently

I think it could strengthen Biden's chances. There's nothing for Trump to really hit Biden with. All of Biden's major fuck ups or unpopular stances are exacerbated under Trump.

Biden tried for a bipartisan immigration bill that Trump wouldn't support. So nothing on immigration.

Biden is still funding Israel which Trump is all in on. So only vector there is that Biden doesn't want obvious genocide, not a strong point.

Interest rates trending downward, so "economy" is toothless.

It would actually be good if Trump tried to attack him on anything like that.

Don't forget that the RNC voted unanimously to withdraw from the Commission on Presidential Debates. Not sure ol Trump would abide, but no GOP candidates are to appear in primary or presidential debates not sanctioned by the RNC. They withdrew after Trump complained about timing, formats, and moderators.

I'd be surprised if the DNC let the RNC, let alone Trump, set all the rules.

I forgot how Trump and friends seemed to try to intentionally give Biden Covid last time.

Anyway, I think it’s unlikely Trump will debate him. If they do, the moderators should definitely enforce turning off the mic when it’s not someone’s turn to talk and not allow Trump to creepily wander around the stage and stand behind Biden like he did to Clinton.

[–] Bananigans@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 8 months ago

Remember last time when Trump did whatever the negligent version of attempted assassination is by going on stage with COVID?

[–] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 23 points 8 months ago (1 children)

There’s absolutely nothing in it for Biden. Nor for the country. It’s just a grotesque spectacle.

[–] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Nor for the country.

I disagree. As fucked as this particular situation is, the people should be able to watch the candidates answer hard questions. That's what happens normally and I don't see why that should change just because the diaper shitting orange narcissist is involved.

[–] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago (3 children)

It shouldn’t make a difference, but here we are. It’s utterly pointless.

watch the candidates answer hard questions

You think they'll actually answer ANY questions?

Biden doesn't want a debate.

And trump doesn't either.

So they're both going to say they're willing but can't because of ______.

Last election I'm pretty sure was the first in modern history we didn't get the standard 3, I'll be surprised if we get 1 this time.

[–] pearsaltchocolatebar@discuss.online 35 points 8 months ago (3 children)

I'm pretty sure Biden does want a debate. He's been intentionally pushing Trump's buttons for a minute now.

He would be ecstatic if he could get Trump to sundown during a debate, which is likely why Trump's handlers won't let him do it.

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 22 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Or, at least, get to tell him to shut up on TV again.

[–] twistypencil@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (2 children)

What does that mean, to sundown?

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 15 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Dementia symptoms becoming visible.

What is sundowning?

Sometimes you might see changes in the person’s behaviour in the later afternoon or towards the end of the day. During this time the person may become intensely distressed, agitated and have hallucinations or delusions. This may continue into the night, making it hard for them to get enough sleep.

This is sometimes known as ‘sundowning’ but is not necessarily linked to the sun setting or limited to the end of the day. Sundowning can happen at any stage of dementia but is more common during the middle stage and later stages.

[–] idiomaddict@feddit.de 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

People with Alzheimer’s tend to be in better spirits with more manageable symptoms during the day and the difference can be striking. Because it’s frequently tied to the daylight, to “sundown” is to experience more severe Alzheimer’s symptoms. Basically, if Biden can get trump to have a brain fart and show mental incompetence.

Sidenote: I’m pretty sure I write like chatgpt, which is a fucking problem for the thesis I’m working on.

This is exactly how I speak to my dad when he wants to play a game of pool. I tell him that I’ll play only if he doesn’t throw temper tantrums, he tells me that he’ll do his best and I always regret my decision. I haven’t played pool with him in years. The only way to win is to not play.

[–] fluxion@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Sure, when he's dead.

People that old don't change unless they're willing. And someone who throws temper tantrums at billiards is not at all willing.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 17 points 8 months ago

DO NOT DO THIS.

JOE - Whoever - SERIOUSLY. Do. Not. Get into the same room / frame / discussion with that traitorous rapist garbage. Don’t even joke about it. No.

No, no, no.

[–] Jiggle_Physics@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago (4 children)

If he does do a debate with Trump he should do to Trump what Trump did to Hillary. Bring in rape victims of his, set up a booth for them to sit at before it starts, then call the media over to talk to them.

On the one hand, candidates should not, under any circumstances, have a choice. Eligibility for office should be predicated on participation in public debates, structured and moderated under direct democratic control. On the other hand, stopping Trump is essential, and in the system we have, not the system I wish we had, this is a good strategy. Biden is assuming the role of adult in the room, and making Trump come to him, setting vague terms he never actually has to deliver on. He's setting up the conclusion that if there isn't a debate, it's because Trump was an ill-behaved child, but if there is, it will be on Biden's terms. Very well played.
