Being a leftist and knowing the actual history seems like some kinda clown-car damnation from time to time. This is one of those times.
I wouldn't say there's a correlation in knowing the actual history. Those guys are just modest about the Nazi part, but well aware of it. They just want to reduce the attack surface.
So calling them Nazis and treating as such is fair.

I had an Arab friend told me he hated Ukraine. Not hated the war or anything like, but just hated Ukraine as a whole. I definitely understood his sentiment but didn’t agree with entirely hating it even after all the obvious Nazism. I took the liberal route of bad apples, that the majority of people do not support fascism. But it’s pretty clear that my friend is correct. I hate modern Ukraine in its entirety - no different than the US or Israel or Nazi Germany or confederate south. This is what Ukraine and its western allies support. Russia shouldn’t give them any concessions

Canada and the USA are full of literal Nazis. But that doesn't stop them from saying that they all fled to South America, even though most Italian, Japanese and German immigrants came before the First World War.
These are photos of SS Galicia Division veteran who was given standing ovation by Canadian parliament, prime-minister of Canada and president of Ukraine. He published these photos of himself in this division during training in Germany.
He wrote that he volunteered to join SS Galicia Division in 1943 in Ternopil region in Western Ukraine

You may be right, but Ukraine is still a defending country facing many war crimes by the attacker. Which also hasn't provoked that attack in any way.
