It's 12c, I can see the price right there on the next hand side, near the top

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 16 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Exactly! How much could it possibly be worth today? It's just paper and ink. Ideas are free.

I'm willing to go as high as $1.20, cash in hand.

Quick edit: I would not take credit score into account to sell this. I have a great score and I would still have to sell my house, empty my retirement fund, and sell plasma to buy this for real. There's no way I'd be able to buy this on my salary even if financed over a very long period of time.

Definitely price gouging, someone call the attorney general.

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 90 points 7 months ago (2 children)

To be fair that's not just a Spider-Man comic, that's THE Spider-Man comic. Like the very first one. There was no Spider-Man before that issue lol

[–] janNatan@lemmy.ml 61 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It should really be in a locked case if you're going to display it at all.

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 54 points 7 months ago (3 children)

I would guess this is either a close up of a shelf behind the counter or a fake comic for display purposes only. I would hope so at least lol

[–] weariedfae@lemmy.world 16 points 7 months ago

Looks like a booth at a con perhaps based on the background.

[–] deweydecibel@lemmy.world 15 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's fake or someone is seriously fucking up.

If that thing were real, any self respecting collector would have it in an air sealed case (that appears to have an open top), and frankly wouldn't be putting it out on any rack whatsoever.

This is not an item you sell off a rack at a store or con. This is an auction item.

[–] helpme@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 months ago

They're are a lot of nicer copies of things that will never be graded due to the basics of supply and demand.

[–] janNatan@lemmy.ml 3 points 7 months ago

It does kinda look like a xerox. I hope you're right.

[–] Player2@lemm.ee 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Doesn't like a Spider-Man comic at all actually, it's a Spider Man comic. Hyphenation matters!

[–] Player2@lemm.ee 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'm talking about the cover of the original comic. I know it's actually hyphenated now but it is clearly not in OP's picture

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

This is Spider Man without the hyphen:

I heard he may actually be a Man Spider though...

[–] Kitten_Mittens@lemmy.world 46 points 7 months ago (3 children)

Amazing Fantasy Spider-Man with a CGC rating of 9.6 sold in 2021 for 3.6 million dollars. The 6 million dollar man would have to sell over half of himself to afford that.

[–] DoctorWhookah@sh.itjust.works 23 points 7 months ago

There is one on eBay with a 9.2 for $49,500. Quite the bargain!

[–] Pra@sh.itjust.works 7 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I hate dogging on America's health care system because it's already done ad nauseam but I wonder with today's prices if there's already a 6 million dollar man out there, with just a fuckton of surgeries done over the years

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

I seriously doubt they have a multi million dollar comic sitting on a wire rack.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 25 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

An arm and a leg? Pfft. What is it, 1997? Inflation my dude. We're talking arms, legs, and genitals. Not like you're using them anyway, nerd.

[–] Blackout@kbin.run 11 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Pfft, he doesn't even have 8 legs. Pathetic

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

Something something spider-man

[–] BigDaddySlim@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Umm excuse me but I actually use my balls daily.

Where do you think I store my pee?

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

Well you're just going to have to store it wherever girls store theirs and pee out your butt like they do.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 24 points 7 months ago

I once had a chance to get a copy in good condition for 300. I still occasionally kick myself for not getting it

[–] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 19 points 7 months ago

You will need a check with your signature on it. The store will fill in the amount.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 7 months ago

Steve Ditko really flipping nailed the Spiderman costume right from the start. Even after 60 years it's still awesome.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I feel like if someone photoshopped that sticky note on a loaf of bread, it would be even funnier and more realistic than this.

[–] kyle@lemm.ee 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It could be that just the text is photoshopped.

Apparently the one next to it is $5,500, which seems outrageous to just have on a shelf next to other comics.

[–] fadedmaster@sh.itjust.works 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Is the photo cut off for me? I only see $550 on the post it note next to it. I can't tell whether there's another zero, a decimal with cents, or nothing else.

[–] elvith@feddit.de 3 points 7 months ago (2 children)

The big note reads $550, yes. But it's cropped in a way that $5500 is possible. And if you take a look at the small price tag in the top left of that issue, you can see, that its $5500.

[–] kyle@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

This ^

I was looking at the top left corner of the cropped one.

[–] fadedmaster@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 months ago

I totally didn't even see that. Haha. Good eye!

[–] fadedmaster@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago

Good eye. I didn't see that price tag in the top left. Thanks!

[–] thesmokingman@programming.dev 6 points 7 months ago

It’s not graded and the top of the cover is torn. It could either be the facsimile that’s functionally worthless or it could, with a grade to the right collector, be worth a few grand if it’s complete. The lack of a grade really makes me question the seller and its true value or its provenance.

When I was 10 a kid brought this to bible camp

My mind is blown to this day
