Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

there is no Democratic Party constituency that they won't betray on a dime

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 53 points 6 months ago

dem voters love to talk about how much the party cares about women, queers, people of color and workers, and the actual party is constantly like "uh i think you got the wrong number"

[–] hotcouchguy@hexbear.net 39 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Finance industry, tech industry, arms industry

[–] supafuzz@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago

they'd turn on those too if they got a better offer

[–] ashinadash@hexbear.net 93 points 6 months ago

They want you to vote for the guy who can't even be fucked to virtue signal queer support.

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 78 points 6 months ago (1 children)

There's actually a silver lining here. The less that LGBT rights are associated with the US and the collective West, the better.

[–] Rx_Hawk@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Are LGBT rights better protected elsewhere?

[–] alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml 68 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Yes, they're enshrined in the Cuban constitution for example.

T rights are even protected from capitalism in Iran; free hormones and surgery. LGB and Ts who don't want surgery, not so much.

Greater protections for trans people and zero protection for gays is pretty common in West Asia.

[–] da_gay_pussy_eatah@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Is it just me, or is this a really fucking weird way to refer to trans and queer people?

[–] alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml 45 points 6 months ago

If it was coming from like JK rowling, yes, if it's coming from someone whose included in those groups or in pro-LGBT context, w/e.

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 8 points 6 months ago

I think what they are referring to is the way reactionaries in some countries (notably the right in Russia and China) consider queerness to be nearly a western invention and queer rights to be some nefarious plot by the west to weaken them. Therefore, one can hope (though it's unclear if this is what would happen) that the US waving fewer rainbow flags abroad would weaken the rhetorical basis for this myth and therefore make things easier for queer movements in Russia, China, etc.

Heartbreaking: The worst person you know just stopped pretending to support a minority's human rights.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 67 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Lmao rainbow imperialism defeated by austerity. I can't find a bigger irony than that.

[–] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 18 points 6 months ago

when the empire gets too reactionary to even cynically coopt progressive ideas...

[–] the_post_of_tom_joad@hexbear.net 58 points 6 months ago (4 children)

Ugh. How will libs spin this an example of harm reduction?

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 55 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Supporting military (monetarily) is more important than (rhetorically) supporting lgbtq

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 41 points 6 months ago (1 children)

maybe-later-kiddo "something something, Russia Russia Russia, something something" maybe-later-honey

[–] citrussy_capybara@hexbear.net 23 points 6 months ago (1 children)

yes, russia’s latest anti-lgbtq+ law is gaining them too much popularity, so biden has to move to the right on the issue or else risk alienating allys. he’s still the most socialist president in history and the only hope to bring powerful unions back. it’s almost as if sometimes minorities need to be stabbed in the back in order for the rich to profit. let the adults in the room handle things, you tankies are out of your depth.

  1. Puts a timeline on someone else's freedom blue-check

  2. Enemy is both strong and weak blue-check

  3. We'll get back to it at a better time blue-check

I see it as a likely outcome.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 28 points 6 months ago

Easy: they will never talk about it

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago

It is your fault for not having voted hard enough for them.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 6 months ago

Idf are all the support trans people need

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 57 points 6 months ago

Ah I see yet another example of Biden protecting LGBTQ+ rights

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 54 points 6 months ago

It's gonna be funny watching Biden's field campaign crash and burn because the young people those operations rely on stop being gullible enough to give free labor to 99.9999% Hitler

[–] porcupine@lemmygrad.ml 53 points 6 months ago

Eligible flags include the POW/MIA flag

hitler particles detector

Did they intentionally put that 75% of the $1.2T budget going to the military like 1 sentence before saying l ~~less than 1%~~ less than 0.001% is going to headstart programs and think that out would absolve the previous sentence?

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 50 points 6 months ago (2 children)
[–] Kuori@hexbear.net 48 points 6 months ago

off to brunch celebrating this stunning display of harm reduction

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 6 months ago

Yelling at Russia and China veto so they can say it's not Bidens fault Israel is doing genocide

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 47 points 6 months ago

Kind of okay with this one. I don't want the Rainbow associated with a genocidal regime. I'm proud to be bi, not proud to be American.

[–] heartheartbreak@hexbear.net 43 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Critical support to ending rainbow imperialism and frying the brainworms that so many of my muslim relatives have about the West and queerness 07.

[–] robinn_IV@hexbear.net 28 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 12 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Is this that "standing up foe the lgbtq community" liberals keep telling me about.

Literally can't even be bothered to make the most basic empty gesture.

Bow dumb do you have to be to believe he would do literally anything on the topic.

[–] someone@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago

Is this that "standing up foe the lgbtq community" liberals keep telling me about.

Maybe they mean it literally. As in all that the Democrats will do is occasionally literally stand up at some LGBT+ related event for a photo op.

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 12 points 6 months ago

The United States is no longer a safe space for LGBTQ+ people. Lavender Scare 2.0 is in season.

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 6 months ago

Neolibs try not to show bloodthirst challenge [impossible]

[–] What_Religion_R_They@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago
