I have met 2 in real life and they have both been amazing people. Very smart, friendly and sensitive. So far my track record is 100% positive.

Very nice. I started using zellij a lot and glad it's getting more and more cool features.

Every time I hear about eve, I remember how much I wished it was a slightly different game. There is no way to play eve without investing many hours each time. Everything takes a very long time.

On the plus side, just the feeling that someone may come up and kill you and take your stuff makes the game feel quite scary. I was doing wormholes for a while and pretty much was constantly nervous about getting killed. Never happened though.

All that text and it's all about sexual things and male privilege. If this is real, it shows you have no real life experience and you need wait until you do to understand what life is actually like as an adult.

Too much centralization of the Lemmy network happened. A big default choice instance, some others that are medium sized, and several hundreds of tiny instances nobody cares about.

It does make more sense to have a community for an interest too, rather than an entire instance devoted to one area.

I guess it works for porn instances but haven't seen it work for any others. Porn is good for having alt accounts.

Where are the good guys in non-religious (scientific) leaders?

They are all scheming to gain more power and control.

Humans are just not emotionally ready to recognize where all this leads.

It's absolutely horrible yeah. This is 2024. Is this the future people were thinking we would have...

Almost everyone is on Lemmy.world, so.... I don't know. Don't think they made a choice. People who are not on Lemmy.world made a choice at least.

I just feel alone since I don't enjoy any costumes... I'm amazed that people enjoy dressing up. It's just missing entirely in my own personality. Fuck I'm boring.

Uncapping (self.uncapthehouse)

I had to do a web search to understand what uncapping meant... I guess its a sign that I dont follow these things very closely. :)

Uncapping refers to the idea of removing or raising the current cap on the number of members in the House of Representatives, which is currently set at 435.

The U.S. House of Representatives has had 435 members since 1913, except for a brief period from 1959 to 1963 when temporary members were added after Alaska and Hawaii became states. This number was capped permanently by the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929.

The call for "uncapping" the House has been a topic of discussion and debate among some activists and political analysts. They argue that the fixed number doesn't accommodate the growth of the U.S. population, leading to decreased representation for certain states and citizens as the population grows. For instance, when the cap was set in 1913, each representative served about 210,000 constituents. Today, with the U.S. population over 330 million, each representative serves an average of around 760,000 constituents.

Advocates for uncapping or raising the cap believe it would provide better representation and make the House more responsive to the needs of a larger and more diverse population.

This one is pretty cool for quick navigation. :)

As a very happy Kagi user since launch, I think you should check out this search engine. It's fantastic.

This was a very interesting read.

The final release of the GNOME 45 desktop environment is expected on September 20th, 2023.

Not long to go now. :)

I always look forward to new Gnome releases, and I still switch back and forth between Plasma and Gnome all the time...

How awesome is this!

Reminds me of all the beautiful personal web sites we used to have and visit just for fun.

Topics essentially works like this: rather than using cookies to track people around the web and figure out their interests from the sites they visit and the apps they use, websites can ask Chrome directly, via its Topics JavaScript API, what sort of things the user is interested in, and then display ads based on that. Chrome picks these topics of interest from studying the user's browser history.

Isn't this completely immoral? They are literally stealing the users private browsing history and uses it to boost their own profits.
