snake post
I'd like to talk about one of my favorite ball python morphs, the banana gene. It is an incomplete dominant trait first produced by NERD in 2003. Incomplete dominant means an animal only needs one copy of the gene for it to express itself, however a "super" (homozygous) form exists when both parents pass the gene on to their offspring.
An adult and baby banana ball python. As you can see, they are bright yellow with black spots as adults, looking very much like a banana. They have white bellies. This is a different gene from albinism, and they have normal eyes. Here's a wild type for comparison:
One thing that is very unique to the banana gene is it is sex linked (the only ball python morph that does this, not sure about other animals). Female bananas will produce equal split of male and female, banana and wild type. However in males, it is linked to how the sire inherited the gene. If he inherited it from his father's side, he is a "male maker" and almost all of the bananas he produces will be male. The sex split and morph split are the same (50/50), but almost all the males will have the gene and almost all the females will be wild type. Same if he inherited the gene from his mother, just reversed (this is a "female maker"). A common myth/misunderstanding is that this holds true all the time, it does not. A male maker can still produce female banana ball pythons, and male wild types. Same for female makers, in the other direction. Roughly 3% of snakes produced from male bananas will be one of these instead of the "expected" outcome.
These are both super bananas if you wanted to see what they look like ^^

sad, 'tism
I hate feeling like a third (or fourth or fifth) wheel all the time and being overstimulated and overwhelmed attempting to be socialEverything is too much and I feel like I only ever get brought along to things out of pity and then do a bad job socializing while also barely holding it together the whole time and eating myself up mentally for not doing better
I feel like I'm just inherently magnetically repellent to neurotypical socializing
I have no clue how they can do it, I went to dinner at a (pretty nice) restaurant and all the noise was just unbearable while trying to fit into polite small talk and I got a massive headache and spent the whole time feeling like an awkward blob that was just unwanted baggage and was on edge the whole time dreading putting my foot in my mouth or spilling something or making an ass out of myself somehow but apparently it was a nice dinner according to normal people
I just wanna hide under the blankets in a dark quiet room for awhile
Existing for me often feels like that awkward hallway dance thing where two people are trying to walk past each other and both step into each other's way attempting to let the other by, but the other person is every person and the hallway is the world all the time
I'm really bad at this
People don't really do this. If you think someone is weird and unpleasant, it's way easier to just not invite them to things. Especially neurotypical people will try to cut any of that stuff out. They won't benevolently invite someone because "aw, they just need help socializing ๐ฅบ"
What I'm getting at here: if they are inviting you places, it's because they want you there and they enjoy your presence.
Listen to this person
Thanks
I dunno, I guess I was overthinking it and catastrophized from having a bad time but I just left there bewildered that they were pretty much like "hey, let's go to The Headache Factory! I love hearing plates and silverware crashing into each other and small children crying and yelling repeatedly while I try to converse and eat at the same time in a cramped booth!" and enjoyed themselves and apparently I masked well enough that they didn't think I was just gritting my teeth and trying not to storm out or meltdown the whole time
