bottom surgery stuff and personal experiences
There are quite a few different types of bottom surgery. I will try and outline them here, but I don't know a lot about some of them and I may not know every type out there. I hope someone else can expand upon this. The types of bottom surgery that I'm aware of are as follows.Penile Inversion - It's exactly as it sounds and has been used for a very long time. They invert your penis, using the glans as a clitoris.
Peritoneal Pull-through - It's very similar to Penile Inversion. The difference here is that they use peritoneal tissue from your stomach to line the neovaginal canal to potentially give it a self-lubrication effect.
Colon Vaginoplasty - Here, instead of inverting your penis, they take a 7" section of your colon and it's used as the vaginal canal. It has self-lubricating abilities, but that is not scientific fact. It's simply just anecdotal evidence currently.
Zero Depth - Also as it sounds. I think it's also just called a vulvoplasty, but I'm not certain. You have no vaginal canal here.
Penile Preservation - This one preserves your penis for use if you so desire. I know very little about this one aside from the fact that you keep your penis.
From this point forward, everything is anecdotal and based off of my personal experience. I went with Colon Vaginoplasty, but Peritoneal Pull-through was a close second. I didn't consider Penile Inversion because it seems to be getting phased out as Peritoneal Pullthrough is just strictly better it seems. The others I had zero interest in. The major reasons for this is because Peritoneal Pull-through seems to have a depth retention issue and some fun stuff regarding a higher incidence rate of vaginal stenosis. I know 2 people personally that have vaginal stenosis and require some form of revision. Those 2 people are the only 2 I know that have gotten it. The other reason is that Peritoneal Pull-through requires a significant amount of life-long dilation. Colon Vaginoplasty doesn't really. You still have to dilate, but the frequency really drops off after the first year. I was also afraid of just losing depth as I was a grower prior to surgery. We're talking 3x size gain. I knew that I would have trouble with stricture and depth, so I ultimately chose Colon Vaginoplasty. I will say that there is a conceived notion that Colon Vaginoplasty comes with a terrible scent involved, but that's also anecdotal, as I will cover below.
At 7 weeks post, I still think it was the correct decision. I've had no real complications aside from some GI issues that was probably just my IBS being a real jerk. Dilation is simple and I've already gotten to the largest dilator. I don't have the fabled scent that people think comes with it. I did for about 2 weeks mind you, but it's nothing like that anymore. It's a mild scent at best. I can say that this is probably due to my very strict care that I gave myself. I keep myself very clean. In regards to scent though, my puppy wife had an issue with it for a long time and I can't really tell you why. Hers recently just got mild and not awful. So it does happen, but it's not a guarantee.
Ultimately, what you choose is entirely up to you. I'd say research your options thoroughly when it comes time for you to do so. I was conflicted up until about 1 month after my consultation, but that was solely because I was afraid of my IBS acting up (which it did, but it wasn't so bad). Ultimately you will figure out which version is best for you. Hells, you might even get lucky and there may be an even better version of the surgery by then. After all, they're still innovating in the field. Oh, and I can't stress this enough, but BE SURE TO SHOP AROUND FOR SURGEONS. YOU WILL HAVE THIS FOREVER, MAKE SURE IT'S DONE CORRECTLY.

oh my that's a lot of choices. right now I was kind of conflicted about another thing though, which is like... how do i put this? The penis is fine, I guess. It can stay for a few years. SRS can wait. My problem is with these two balls of testosterone that are right underneath it. An orchiectomy should be a bit easier to do (or maybe it isn't idk), but I've also heard that it can reduce your options in getting SRS in the future? I think I want to get rid of my testicles but if that might result in less options/worse options for SRS down the line then I'm really hesitant to consider that. Also, how does getting an orchiectomy compare to a vaginoplasty? Orchi seems simpler and easier, so I assume that it would be easier to schedule/get, but that's just me wildly guessing. I have no ideaother thing, I guess, but is there much advantage to the "self lubrication"? It sounds nice, I guess, but if I'm going to be using it like that, isn't normal lube more or less required or at least heavily recommended anyway? or is there something i'm not considering here. I'm not really against the idea but I don't see much utility in it
oh of course. I got one set of genitals to reshape, i got to make sure it's done right. You don't need to tell me that twice, but I am a bit worried about the trans people who do

Orchi is not something I have any experience with whatsoever. My testicles were removed with my bottom surgery. I'm not entirely certain if it limits your options in regards to what you can have done, but I do know that they use the scrotum for the labia majora. Not sure if it would complicate such matters in the future, so someone else could answer that.As far as easier to schedule or quicker, that probably varies from surgeon to surgeon. I know my surgeon (Dr. Del Corral in Baltimore), usually just schedules everyone 4 months out once the scheduler gets to you, regardless of what surgery you're getting (as he does way more than bottom surgeries). You'd probably have to shop around to see how that would shape up in other circumstances.
Sorry I couldn't offer much help on this side of things. I hope you're able to find good answers to your questions.
and that's why i gotta ask around the internet. it's still so early in my transition, i got plenty of time to figure this all out :). thanks your your help

Feel the same way. Like, if it were cheap and there were no potential recovery issues, SRS seems cool and better than not. But not a big deal either. OTOH, I've first realized I had an interested in an orchi about a decade before I realized I was an egg.
I remember hearing similar things, where tissue can shrink afterwards (over the course of years?), which means less tissue available elsewhere. I think I've heard you can have placeholders kept there if you want to prevent that?

Only one I can think of is nullification, which I think is probably similar to zero-depth without the extra fluff. Just smoothness and a pee-hole.
